SUBJECT: PHYSICS (042)

Grade: 11 Time: 2 Hours
Date: 10/06/2018 Max Marks: 50

General Instructions:
1. All questions are compulsory. There are 19 questions in all.
2. This question paper has four sections: Section A, Section B, Section C and Section D
3. Section A has four questions of one mark each, Section B has five questions of two marks
each, Section C has seven questions of three marks each, and Section D contains three
questions of five marks each.

SECTION A

1 Solve with due regard to significant figures. 1

(a) 46.7-10.04
(b) 3.9x105 – 2.5 x 104
2 What is the angle between velocity and acceleration at the peak point of the projectile 1
motion?

3 Two particles having masses M and m are moving in a circular path having radius R and 1
r. If their time periods are same, calculate the ratio of their angular velocities.

4 An athlete completes one round of a circular track of radius R in 40 s. What will be his 1
displacement at the end of 2 min 20 s?
SECTION B

5 𝑎−𝑥 2 2
Write the dimensions of a and b in the relation 𝐸 = where E, x and t represent energy,
𝑏𝑡
distance and time respectively.
6 A projectile is thrown at an angle of 600 with the horizontal with an initial velocity of 2
147m/s. calculate the X and Y component of the velocity of the particle when its
inclination becomes 45 0.
7 Derive an expression for the displacement of a uniformly accelerated body from its velocity 2
– time graph.
8 State triangle law of vector addition and hence prove that vector addition of three vectors 2
A, B and C is associative.
9 Define the terms : (a) Relative error (b) Least count error 2

SECTION C

10 The coefficient of viscosity  of a gas depends on the mass m, the effective diameter d and
the mean speed v of the gas molecules. Use dimensional analysis to find the relation 3
between them.

1
11 Define uniform circular motion. Show that centripetal acceleration is ‘center seeking 3
acceleration’ and hence derive an expression for the same by vector analysis.

12 Two particles start their motion from points A and B with velocities 252km/h and144km/h 3
and accelerations -4m/s2 and 8m/s2 respectively in the direction from A to B. Prove that
they will meet each other twice. Where and when will they meet?

13 A train starts from a station X with a uniform acceleration a1 for some distance and then 3
goes with a uniform retardation a2 for some more distance to come to rest at the station Y.
the distance between the stations X and Y is 4 km and the train takes 4minutes to complete
1 1
the journey. If the accelerations are in km/min2 show that 𝑎 + 𝑎 = 2
1 2

14 A body is moving with a uniform acceleration. Its velocity after 5 seconds is 25m/s and 3
after 8 seconds is 34m/s. calculate the distance it will cover in 10th second. Also, calculate
the distance at the end of 9 secs.

15 A particle starts from origin at t = 0 with a velocity 3.0 j m/s and moves in x-y plane under 3
action of a force which produces a constant acceleration of (3 i +2 j) m/s2. (a) What is the
x-coordinate of the particle at the instant its y-coordinate is 54 m? (b) What is the speed of
the particle at this time?

16 Given 𝑎̅ + 𝑏̅ + 𝑐̅ + 𝑑̅ = 0, which of the following statements are correct? Give reasons.

(a) a, b, c, and d must each be a null vector, 3
(b) The magnitude of (𝑎̅ + 𝑐̅) equals the magnitude of (𝑐̅ +𝑑̅ ),
(c) The magnitude of 𝑎̅ can never be greater than the sum of the magnitudes of 𝑏̅ , 𝑐̅ ,𝑑̅

SECTION D

17 (a) Define and derive the expression for the time of flight and maximum height attained 5
for the projectile thrown upwards at an angle θ with the horizontal direction.
(b) When an object projected obliquely at an angle θ, show that the object will follow
a parabolic path.
(c) Show that the range of projection of a projectile for two angles of projection and
β is same where +β = 900

18 (a) The distance between Ahmedabad and Vadodara is 100 km. Two trains set off 5
simultaneously from Ahmedabad and Vadodara towards each other. The speed of
these trains are 45km/h and 30km/h respectively. When will they cross each other?
(b) A coin is dropped from a balloon going up with a uniform velocity 12m/s. If the
balloon was at 81 m high when the coin was dropped, find its height when the coin
hits the ground (take g = 10m/s2). Also, calculate the time taken by the coin to hit
the ground.

19 (a) “All equations that are dimensionally consistent are not physically consistent, but 5
all the equations which are physically consistent are dimensionally too “– Justify
the statement with appropriate examples. Also state the principle behind
dimensional analysis
(b) The percentage errors in measurement of mass and speed are 3% and 2%
respectively. Evaluate the percentage error in the measurement of kinetic energy.
Which of the two measurements should be taken carefully to reduce the error in
kinetic energy?
