Save Me My Goddess

By Al-Ryan A. Calimba
There are things in this world that is hidden in sight. We may have seen it but our minds
wouldn’t accept such facts that it clouds our sights. Thus the creation of the Mist.
The Mist is the magical barrier that clouds the sight of mortals from seeing things that are
beyond their imagination could perceive. Things like monsters, gods, goddesses and demigods.
That’s right. This is the world we live in, the world I live in.
I am Jung Yonghwa. I could see things that others couldn’t and I have a secret that
mustn’t be revealed.

I am a logical girl. I don’t believe in things that I haven’t seen or hear. I believe that
everything in this world have a logical explanation.
My parents left me nothing in life. I am alone but I am not sad. Knowledge is the most
important thing in this world. If you know things, you have the advantage in life. Knowledge is
the key to success and wisdom is the way to the right path of life. Kindness given to others and
kindness will be given back. These are the things I believe in life.
I am Seo Joohyun. My life is in order and always under my control. What would happen
if it goes out of control? Who would take lead of my life when I’m lost?
Chapter I

Seohyun

It was supposed to be just like any other day in my life. Waking up early in the morning,
eating healthy and proper breakfast, preparing for school and going there on time. But why did it
come to this?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I woke up in the middle of the night when I heard a noise outside my room. I live alone,
so the first thing that came to my mind was a burglar.
The first thing I did was lock my door and dial my phone for the police. I'm not really
scared or nervous about it because I'm expecting this to happen since I live alone. Plus, I'm a girl
and I live in a rundown apartment. That is why I have prepared for this. I have organized every
course of action I have to take for every possible situation. I reviewed in my mind the planned
actions for possible scenarios.
I didn't notice it but it's been awhile since I have dialed the police but I still haven't heard
or seen any sign of police coming. And it became silent outside my room now. Did the burglar
left already?
I was starting to get nervous with this silence. I opened the door slightly to see if the
burglar really left. But the burglar was still there and rushed to the door. I quickly shut the door
close but the burglar slammed its body to the door. The door swung open and I was thrown down
by the impact.
The burglar was now inside my room. But that wasn't what caught my attention. The
burglar is a woman with ONE leg! No, wait. The burglar's lower body is that of a snake with two
tail ends!
I can't believe of what I was seeing. A monster is right in front of me. It's red eyes shines
with hunger. I want to scream but no voice was coming out of my mouth. My body can't move
and my breathing became hard. I could almost hear my heartbeat racing like lightning.
The monster seems to sense my fear and that made her smile. She hissed as if she was
laughing.
"Well well, look what I've got. A child of Athena. It seems like I'll have a delicious meal
tonight." the monster said while licking her fangs.
She is going to eat me?! This monster is talking about eating me?! I have to get away! I
have to run! I don't want to die! With this thought, I was able to overcome my fear and finally
move my body. I was able to throw the lamp at my desk and hit the monster on the face. This
gave me the chance to run pass through her and out of my room.
The monster was surprised by my action that it took her a second to understand what was
going on. I was running at the fastest speed my legs could and opened the door of my apartment.
I was about to run out and shout for help when my arm was grabbed. The monster was fast and
caught me. I struggled to get free but the monster was stronger than me.
"Going somewhere? It's rude not to treat your guest nicely." the monster said while
pulling me inside.
I tried to get free from her but her grip is like solid steel. I think she got annoyed of me
and decided to throw me inside. My body was slammed on the wall and the pain almost took my
consciousness away. I was able to stay conscious and not pass out but the pain is still there. My
body feels heavy and my mind is spinning. The monster launched at me but I was able to roll
aside and run to the kitchen.
I grabbed the knife on the counter and held it in my hands.
"Don't come any closer or I'll stab you!" I threaten her.
But the monster just laughed at my words and said "Do you think that will scare me? You
could barely keep yourself from shaking."
It's true. I wasn't much of a threat even if I have a knife compared to her. My body was
trembling with fear and my mind was still spinning from the pain. But I was determined not to
die, at least not without a fight. I won't let myself be just a food for this monster.
I wasn't going to wait to become food, so I charged at the monster. She was going to grab
my arms to stop me but I saw what she was going to do. So I cut her right arm off.
She backed away and wailed. Her right arm turned to black sand as it fell to the ground. I
could see that she was in pain from my attack and I see this as a chance to finish her off. But she
was faster this time and swung her other arm to my right and slammed me to the sides. My knife
was knocked out of my hands and I was left defenseless.
I was able to somehow endure the pain and scan my surroundings. The knife was out of
my reach but I was closer to the door out of my apartment. So I immediately stood up and ran
outside for escape. The monster was still crying in pain for her right arm.
I ran for escape and looked for help but the neighborhood seems like an abandoned place.
There was no one around. I knocked at the other houses but there was no response. It was like no
one could hear me. I ran and ran but I know I am still not safe. I could feel the monster following
me and eventually catch up to me.
It felt like forever and my legs was losing strength. I stopped at a corner for a breather but
when I looked back, the monster was already catching up to me. I started to run again and turned
to an alley to only find myself in a dead end. I turned around and saw the monster at the corner.
She was smiling for I think she figured out that I was trapped. I have nowhere to run
anymore. I tried to find something to fight her with but there was nothing around that I can use.
I was defenseless. I tremble at the thought of it. The monster was taking its time to get to
me and I think she's being careful now. She looks prepared if I ever do anything surprising.
I got to find a way out of here. I was desperately searching for anything that I can use that
I even threw an empty can I found at her. But what it did was only bounce off her and made her
smile even more. I was out of options. My mind was working all sorts of things I could do but to
no avail. It all leads to one result. My death.
As if on cue, my legs finally gave at this realization. I stumble on the ground as I wait for
the monster to kill me. I was preparing myself for my end. The monster was finally infront of me
and said "It seems like you finally gave up. You will pay dearly for my arm."
I closed my eyes and prayed to god to save me! I was screaming for help in my mind.
I could feel her arm coming closer to me when I heard her scream in pain. I was confused
for what I heard, so I looked up. But what I saw was the back figure of a man in front of me.
Beside him is the other arm of the monster starting to turn to sand. And in his hands is a
SWORD?! Who is this man?
Chapter II

Seohyun

That warmth from his touch and those gem-like eyes, shining in the darkness were the
last thing I remembered before falling into deep slumber. How I wished that everything was just
a dream but there was a part of me that doesn’t want those eyes to be just dreams.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The monster screamed for her lost arms. Now she stood like a giant snake with two tail
ends. I couldn’t process what was happening at all until the monster said “Another demigod?!”
The man, who saved me, turned his face slightly and spoke to me. “Are you alright?” he
asked.
I couldn’t really see his face because of the darkness but his eye was the only thing I
could identify. It was the only light that’s shining in this darkness. Just like him becoming my
only ray of light in my suddenly darkened life.
I seized my thoughts and nod at his question because I couldn’t find the strength to
answer him properly. He then returned his gaze at the monster and said “You are very unlucky to
have met me at this time.”
As if on cue, the monster fled at the words of the man. The man stepped once and then
disappeared in the shadows. Afterwards he appeared at the front of the monster. He didn’t give
the monster any moment to react and sliced her with his sword. The monster disintegrated into
dust and disappeared in the wind.
The monster is dead. It’s gone now. But I still shake that feeling of someone or
something watching me. That feeling when the monster was following me and reappearing in the
shadows like the man.
The man walked back to me and sheathed his sword. He was wearing a black coat, black
shirt, black pants and black shoes. Along with his black hair and shining eyes, he seems like a
grim reaper blending in the shadows. No, that’s wrong. It’s more like the shadows are trying to
blend into him.
He stretched his hand to me and said “Are you okay? Can you get up?”
He seemed kind and caring, since he saved me and all, but I have that feeling that his
more dangerous than the monster. It feels like death is swirling around him.
“I’m okay. I can… just… give me a minute.” I said as I was trying to gather my strength.
“What was that? What was that monster? Who are you?”
“I’ll explain later. Right now, we have to go.” said the man.
“Why? I mean you just killed that… that monster.” I said as my mind goes haywire
again. The fear and hopelessness was returning. “Is it still not dead? Will it reappear again?”
I was shivering from the thought of that monster coming to eat me. The fear was
intensifying in my gut and the strength I have gathered before was disappearing.
Then suddenly, the man came near me, held my shoulders and said with worry in his
voice “No, that monster is destroyed. We’re safe from that monster right now.” He was calming
me down and it was working. His voice was soothing my heart and that bad feeling was
disappearing. His touch was warm and I felt safe with him.
With that warmth of his, my consciousness was taken and my exhausted body and mind
fell into slumber. The last thing I remember was his shining and beautiful eyes.
Chapter III

Yonghwa

I felt all of the exhaustion when I rested the girl on the bed. I took her at one of the
hideouts I used before. It was small and only fitted for one person to live. But the resources here
should be enough for the two of us to stay for a while.
I seated myself across the room and thought of all that has happened. All of the rush and
sudden turn of events. And it all started with just one dream. One dream that's still vivid in my
mind.
It was more like a distant memory than a dream. A memory that I could never forget even
if I tried to. I could still feel the dread and the exhaustion in me at that time. The strain on my
body was unbearable and I could barely keep my consciousness from slipping. I was holding a
girl to prevent her from falling into a pit. I couldn't see the bottom but I could feel pure malice
coming from it that sent shivers into my spine.
I couldn't pull her up because of my exhaustion and mainly because someone or
something is pulling her from the pit. The pain was unbearable and it felt like my arm will break
in two. The girl's hand was slipping from mine so I held it tighter to prevent it from slipping any
further. She was yelling to me, saying that I should let go but I refused. I knew that there was no
way left to save her. It was either she fall alone or we fall together. But I refused to believe it. I
was working my mind on finding a way to save her.
She could see that I was frantic in finding a way to save her which she knew that was
impossible. She of all people would know the best. She's the smartest and wisest person I know.
So she decided to choose that choice she knew I could never make. She called my name with a
voice that shocked me so I faced her. Her voice was calm and there was no trace of any fear. I
looked into her eyes and I knew right then what she was gonna do.
"No, no! Don't do it! Don't you dare do it!" I yelled at her while tears escaped my eyes.
I could see in her eyes that she’s determined and nothing could change her mind. I know
these because I have seen it countless times before. This was the one good proof that she’s
stubborn which she denied every time. If we were not in that situation, I would have started
teasing her with it. But unfortunately, we were. The gods must be laughing with us now. Yes,
they are definitely laughing at me now. I will never forgive them. And then I snapped from my
thought.
I yelled at her to hold on but her expression didn't change. "Goodbye, Yongie. I wished
we could've had more time together. But I guess this is where we must part." She said to me with
tears flowing from her eyes and her voice was trembling. She forced a smile but I could clearly
see the sadness and fear in her eyes. I told her to stop and I will not let her fall. But even though I
said those, I knew that if she let go, I won't be able to prevent her from slipping. She said
something but I wasn't able to understand it. I was too focused in holding on and from the pain
burning in my arm. She smiled at me, a smile that I am very familiar with. And then...
She let go.
I watched her as she fell into the pit. Tears fell harder from my eyes and screams escaped
my mouth. I was wailing for her. I was about to jump into the pit myself when two arms stopped
me and pulled me away from it. I tried to break free but two more arms held me. I tried calling
for her name but I couldn't form any words, just screams and wails. I tried to scream her name
for the last time and summoned all of my remaining strength. "SHINHYE!"
I woke up with my hand up trying to grab something that I could never reach.
I was out of breath and full of sweat. I looked around but saw no one in my room. My
heart was beating like crazy. I thought to myself that I needed some fresh air and I prepared to go
out. I took my coat, shoes and sword. After preparing, I went to a corner of my room and shadow
travelled to the place I always go to.
But while I was shadow traveling, I heard a voice of a woman. "Save her."
It sounds familiar but it also contains deadly tone in it. That was when I realized that I
wasn't at the place that I had in mind when I shadow travelled. Then I notices a figure running in
the middle of the night and another figure chasing not far from it. The first figure looks like a girl
and the second one has a tail for its legs. A dracnae. I scowled at the sight of the monster. It
means that the girl it was chasing was a demigod because monsters don't usually pay attention to
mortals.
I saw the girl go in an alley and find herself trapped. I watched as the dracnae slowly
approached the girl and raise its arm to strike her. My body moved on its own like a reflex when
I saw this. I shadow travel to them and sliced the dracnae's arm before it can hurt the girl. And
everything happened in a flash. I saved the girl and I killed the dracnae.
Somehow this girl has this effect on me that I can't explain. It brought me unexplainable
rage when I saw her helpless and scared because of that dracnae. I felt pain in my heart when I
saw her crying. And when she fell asleep in my arms, I felt a strong sense of protection towards
her. It was like I have this huge responsibility to protect her no matter what.
And now that I'm looking at her sleeping face, I couldn’t help myself but to admire her
beauty. Her soft skin, her silky hair and most importantly, her eyes. I can’t forget how dazzling
her eyes were. It was just like her eyes but at the same time different.
But what bothers me the most was the voice I heard while shadow travelling. It was a
sound of a woman and no ordinary woman in that, a goddess. My father is the only one who can
easily interfere with my shadow travelling and no minor god or goddess can do that either.
Which leaves into the major goddesses of the Olympians.
And there is one whom I suspect of who it could be. Athena!
Chapter IV

Yonghwa

It’s been two days since I’ve brought Seo Joohyun here. She’s in a hard time accepting
things that I’ve explained to her. Things about gods, goddesses, monsters and demigods. Things
that most people would laugh at and say as fantasies and myths.
I know how she feels. I went through the same situation before, every demigod will have
to go through it. Even though she thinks that it couldn’t be true, that no logic fits through this,
she have to accept things that she has experienced. The pain and fear she has felt is the definite
proof that everything was real, IS real.
I want her to stay here more and rest but our food and water are almost gone. We have to
move soon or else we’ll starve here. I can go out and look for more food but it would be too
dangerous to leave her here.
“Yonghwa-shi.” she called that stopped my train of thoughts.
“Ne? What is it?” I answered back to her.
“I have been thinking. If all of what you have said to me is true, then we aren’t we in
danger here? We aren’t safe anywhere at all. Are there even more demigod than us?” she asked.
She looks calm and composed but her voice still has some hint of fear.
I was surprised at her words. Even though she’s still scared, how can she have thought of
these things calmly, come to these conclusions and remain composed?
She’s strong. That’s what I thought of her. Even when faced with such fate she remains
strong. She stood up and collected herself alone. She didn’t need help from others. Though she’s
scared, she is also brave. Not even the strong willed demigods I have seen took some time for
them to stand up and face this reality. Not even I could do it. I have someone beside me who
helped and guided me through this darkness.
