Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*review of the short “e” vowel sounds
*consonant blends like cl, tr, sl, spr, bl, fr, gr, fl . . . .
*Sight word review
*blending sounds
* SPELLING is going well! We continue to practice in some way every day!
*recognizing interrogative sentences as a sentence that asks a question!
*main idea & details – The main idea is what the piece is mostly about. The
details are what you learn about the topic. This week we continued learning
about this important concept.
In writing this week we wrote a constructed response. Students are asked a
question and need to cite evidence from the text to answer the question! We
used lasts weeks story about a fox and her kit. In addition, we started the
writing process (planning, writing, revising, editing, & publishing) where we
will take a little longer to write one piece! We are working on a personal
narrative where the writer writes a story about themselves! We decided to
use emotions and write about a time we were excited, scared, nervous, or
anxious about something! They should be fun stories to read!

annual food drive. If you haven’t

send it in on Monday!!
In Math this week we continued Unit
3, Unknown Numbers in Addition &
Subtraction. We have really focused
this week on subtraction number
stories! Our learning targets have
included:
*solving subtraction story problems and
equations
* creating & solving subtraction number
stories
*relating addition & subtraction
situations
*practicing mixed story problems
We have worked really hard on
writing our equation to match the story
problem. We have also learned that the
word some represents the unknown
number and when we circle that like a
number it can help us write a correct
equation. AGAIN, our problem is not
correct math BUT careful reading and
correct equations to solve!
Catch Up
Our SNOW DAY already this
week found us playing catch-up
and trying to accomplish 5 days
of work in 4. We are hoping
this winter is not a repeat of
last!
JUST a reminder to have your
students prepared for outdoor
recess and with shoes for the
classroom. We don’t like to
have to wear WET BOOTS into
the classroom when we sit on
the floor. Some students have
taken their gym shoes home by
mistake and then they don’t
have shoes at all to put on!
