Memo for the

adidas A-01 Policy
Control and Monitoring of Hazardous Substances
Compliance with local and international product safety/consumer protection laws and
regulations is an indisputable imperative and must be most carefully managed in line
with the adidas growing business activities. The task is understood as to safeguard the
adidas Group against legal risks, liabilities and negative business impacts as well as to
protect its reputation as a responsible company.

We have therefore been developing tools and policies in order to pro-actively provide
product-related consumer- and environment-safety measurements, which is one of our
main fields of activity.
Clear standards that follow the strictest local regulations and best practice standards for
consumer care and safety are specified in our A 01 policy for Monitoring and Control
of Hazardous Substances.

This policy has been communicated as mandatory to all business partners and is updated
continuously by consulting with scientific organisations.

No product creation process should ever be completed , nor any production/ order
confirmed (by “Buy-ready” , “BOM Frozen” “CWA” or any other agreed formal process)
without a comprehensive reading, understanding and application of the full A-01 and all
its SOP’s , and existing evidence of full compliance by a complete set of test reports.

It should be reemphasised, that full A 01 compliance provides some important business

benefits to the company and its global operations:

- Support speed to market programs and respective market access on global scale
- Used to cover respective product reporting laws e.g. in the US and Canada, and
mandatory consumer information duties in the EU according to REACH § 33
- Is part of formal product certification processes as the EU CE type approval, and
supports the creation of the official “Declaration of Conformity”.
- Serve for standard declarations for Key Accounts, Retail and public bids
- Supports communication with external entities as state authorities and critical
stakeholders
