Fall Semester 2019-2020 EEE 4012 – RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS ASSIGNMENT – I Date of Submission: 13-09-2019
Assume XX be the Last 2 digits of your Register Number.
1. Determine the altitude and azimuth angle at 6 p.m. (IST) on May 12, for a region (latitude XX° 54´ N, longitude XX° 49´ E). Equation of time correction is given from standard table or chart= - (0´ 09˝). 2. Calculate the angle made by beam radiation with the normal to a flat-plate collector, pointing due south location in New Delhi (XX° 38’ N, XX° 17’ E) at 10: 00 hours, solar time on November 15. The collector is titled at angle of 24° with the horizontal. Also calculate the day-length. 3. Determine the average value of total radiation on a horizontal surface at a location (latitude XX° 13´ N, longitude XX° 13´ E) during the month of March 15. If constants a and b are given equal to 0.28 and 0.48 respectively, and average sunshine hours per day are 10.15. 4. Determine the Local Apparent (Solar) time corresponding to 13 hr 30’ IST on July 12, at Delhi (latitude XX° 35´ N, longitude XX° 12´ E). The equation of time correction on July 12 from standard Table is -4’. In India the standard time is based on the longitude 82° 30 E. Also find the declination at the location. 5. Find the monthly average daily extra-terrestrial radiation for 8th March, 2008 at a surface located at XX° N. The monthly average daily terrestrial radiation on a horizontal surface is 23.8 MJ/m2. 6. Compute the monthly average hourly solar flux received on 15 th July 2016 on a flat plate collector facing south having slope of XX°. The collector is located at Chennai 13°N. The data given is Time: 1.12 h (Local Apparent Time) Hg = 2408 KJ/m2h Hd = 1073 KJ/m2h Ground reflectivity is 0.2 7. Calculate the maximum power output of a 15-m diameter wind turbine at one atmospheric pressure and wind speed of XX m/s. 8. For a 8-blade wind turbine, calculate the angular speed of the rotor to lift water from 6 m depth if the radius of the turbine rotor is 1 m and the wind speed is XX m/s. Given =1. 9. Wind at 1 standard atmospheric pressure and XX° C temperature has a velocity of XX m/sec. The turbine has diameter of 120m and is operating at 40 r.p.m. at maximum efficiency. Calculate i. The total power density in the wind stream ii. Maximum obtainable power density assuming =40% iii. Total power produced in kW iv. Torque and Axial thrust 10. A WEG generator 2400 watts at rated speed of XX kmph at atmospheric pressure and temperature of 24° C. Calculate the change in output if the wind generator is operated at an altitude of 1500 m , temperature 12° C, wind speed XX+4 kmph, and the air pressure 0.88 atmosphere.
