Dear Parishioners,
Reading the news in the past week, I saw
so many troubling things in our world.
Politically, there are unstable governments,
civil protests and unending wars in various
countries. Climate wise, parts of UK was
drowning in heavy rain and floods, while on
the other side of the globe, Australia was
battling hundreds of bushfires in dry heat
conditions. Domestically, a couple was
convicted of murdering their children, and
young people face threats of knife crimes
and various kinds of abuses daily. The list
of ‘bad news’ goes on and on, it’s enough
to make a person fall into depression!
In a way, these news can seem to fulfill
Jesus’ prophecy in today’s gospel perfectly:
“Nation will fight against nation, and
kingdom against kingdom. There will be
great earthquakes and plagues and
famines here and there; there will be
fearful sights and great signs from
heaven. [...] You will be betrayed even
by parents and brothers, relations and
friends; and some of you will be put to
death...” (Lk 21)
These words can easily be mistaken as
Jesus’ doomsday prophecy to scare us to
death. However, if we read Jesus’ words
carefully, Jesus really has a completely
different message!
The words right before the paragraph
above was: “do not be frightened, for
this is something that must happen,
but the end is not so soon.”

Wars, natural disasters, illnesses, violence,
etc. are part of life in this broken and
imperfect world we live in. We need to
recognise this fact, but not despair or give
up and believe that all is lost. On the
contrary, we need to take courage and face
these challenges with hope, faith and love.
Jesus ends with the words, “Your
endurance will win you your lives”. Our
perseverance will not be for nothing, but
will bear fruit even now in our daily lives.
As our friend Snoopy wisely says, except
for that one day when we die, we are alive
for all the other days of our lives. Let us
rejoice in the gift of Life and live our lives
to the full, doing our best to make the most
of all circumstances. Sometimes, a change
of perspective is all it takes to turn a
miserable day into a wonderful one that fills
us with gratitude!
On that note, perhaps I should focus more
on the good news. People are fundraising
for children in need; others are coming up
with new ways to tackle waste problems or
cure diseases; certain conflicts have been
resolved; we had a couple of glorious
sunny mornings last week... I guess the
end of the world is not near after all!

MONTH OF HOLY SOULS
REMEMBRANCE BOOK
During the month of November, we will
pray for all our deceased loved ones.
Please write in the names of the deceased
on the white forms and place it in the
Remembrance Book, and place your
donation for Masses for the Holy Soul in the
envelope provided in the box next to the
table. They will be prayed for during all the
Masses in the coming month.
Part of the plan is that you would attend
Mass as much as possible also, it’s unfair to
leave all the praying to others!!
INSIGHT III:
WOMEN & MEN OF THE BIBLE
This course offers an insight into the lives
of various women and men in the Bible,
specifically from the New Testament.

PARISH OUTREACH
SANDWICH MAKING (PREPARATION):
on Fri. 22nd November after 9:15am Mass.

Volunteers are urgently needed on
Saturday mornings at 7:00am to help with
preparing the sandwiches, soups, tea and
coffee. Drivers also needed.
CAFOD Memorial Mass
You are warmly invited to the annual
CAFOD Memorial Mass, in memory of all
our Supporters and Volunteers, at the
Church of Christ the King, 29 Bramley
Road, Oakwood, London N14 4HE at 11am
on Wednesday 20 November followed by
refreshments in the Parish Centre.
A NOTE: LIVE SIMPLY
All glitter is deadly LITTER! Try to reduce it
this Christmas. Glitter cannot be recycled
and is a real threat to fish!
PARISH BAZAAR WITH ‘GRAND DRAW’
 As part of our Parish fundraising effort,
we will hold a Parish Bazaar on
Sunday, 24th November 2019 9am-3pm.
A basket for items/goods for the ‘Parish
Bazaar Tombola’ is available by the pillar in
front by the Altar. We would need bottles,
toiletries and items such as unwanted gifts
suitable for the Tombola.
(Due to health and safety regulations, we
can’t accent used electrical equipments,
clothing or shoes for the tombola)
We will also need cakes for our stall.
Raffle Tickets: £1 for a strip of 5 tickets
or £5 for 6 strips of 5 tickets each.
Everybody is welcome and we look
forward to seeing you there.
