As explained in the Programme Guide for BDP, you will have to do one assignment for the Application oriented
course of Human environment (AHE-01). The assignment is Tutor Marked Assignment (TMA) and is based on
all the six blocks of the course.
We hope you are familiar with the system of evaluation to be followed for the Bachelor’s Degree Programme. At
this stage you may probably like to re-read the section on assignments in the Programme Guide for Application
Courses that we sent you after your enrolment. A weightage of 30 per cent, as you are aware, has been earmarked
for continuous evaluation which would consist of one tutor-marked assignment for this course.
Instructions for Doing Your Assignments
Before attempting the assignment please read the following instructions carefully.
1. On top of the first page of your TMA answer sheet, please write the details exactly in the following format:
4. (a) List any six effects of urbanization on the environment and describe any (3+3= 6)
one of them.
(b) Describe the steps involved in the secondary treatment of sewage water (4)
in order to make it suitable for drinking purposes.
5. (a) Give the differences between geological and accelerated erosion. (4)
(b) Describe the two broad methods of processing and recycling industrial (4)
wastes.
(c) Differentiate between carcinomas and sarcomas. (2)
7. (a) Briefly write about the role the non-governmental organization, (3)
“Sanjeev Seva Samiti,” in the field of environment. Give the names of
two NGOs that have received the Indira Gandhi Paryavaran Puraskar.
(b) Explain with the help of examples how biofertilisers are used in the (4)
conservation of cultivable lands.
(c) Write about the insecticide Act of India in brief. (3)
9. (a) Write about the three types of air quality standards that are prescribed by (6)
the Central Pollution Central Board of India
(b) List and describe the four points that should be taken into consideration (4)
for preventing or controlling desertification.
