Orientation Summary

First Aid Orientation was conducted on 29-October ’19 at Muhammad Uzair Auditorium, Jinnah
University for Women. The orientation session was organized by the students of Media Studies
Department, BS 4th year (fall) under the supervision of Ma’am Saima Fareed. A key trainer, Miss
Anita Shaheen was invited from Pakistan Red Crescent Sindh Branch to aware the students
about the basic first aid tactics. The orientation session had a selected a audience, including 50
students and Dean, faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Farida Azeem.

The purpose of the orientation session was to aware students about the basic tactics of first aid
to save a life and to prepare students for any accidental situation. During the orientation, the
honorable trainer, Ms Anita Shaheen spoke about variety of techniques regarding first aid
awareness. She engaged the attendees by asking different questions and by practically
performing steps of DRABC technique to ensure somebody’s life. Ms Shaheen taught the actual
meaning of first aid to students, She stated that “First Aid means First Hand which means initial
health facility with available resources to save a life”. She also motivated and boosted the
confidence of the students by stating that “You can only save a life, if you have self-confidence
and a good common sense”.
The session included covering various chapters of first aid during which the attendees learnt
about emergency aid, its importance and different methods. All participants practiced various
techniques of first aid. The topics including Fracture & Injuries, Wounds and Bleeding, CPR,
Heat Stroke, Chocking, Bites, Poisoning and Bandages were focused by the trainer. Necessary
information while informing about first aid was also discussed with the audience. The facilitator
trained them that a first aid provider should:

 Remain calm and never lose attention and concentration.


 Remain confident while dealing with injured and traumatized people.
 Check situation and resources.
 Keep on calling for help during operation.
 Command whenever and wherever necessary.
 Use common sense and be creative.

Ms Anita Shaheen additionally offered a complimentary training session for 20 students at their
organization and expressed gratitude towards Jinnah University for women and to the
coordinator of the session Ma’am Saima Fareed for inviting her as a guest trainer. At the end of
the session Dean Prof. Dr. Farida Azeem gave her views about the session, by stating that “First
of all, I would like to thank Ms Anita Shaheen for the fruitful information she has provided us
today, the session was really informative and interesting and I recommend students to learn
more and they should take this complimentary opportunity offered by Ms Anita shaheen.
Because if you have awareness you will come forward to help the society in any field”

The participants remained involved throughout the training. They were engaged and took
interest to learn more. One of the attendee said that “The event was great; the trainer covered
all the basics of emergency situation and taught us what best we can do for ourselves and for
the victims. Great workshop by Bs 4th year (fall) and Miss Saima Fareed”
