INTRODUCTION

All across Malaysia, people are facing challenging environmental problems and
every day the problem of pollution is increasing and in a less favorable state. The effect
has threatened human beings’ health and cannot be abandoned anymore. Malaysia as an
industrial developing country certainly have pollution problems and has been ranked 59
out of 175 countries in the Human Development Index (HDI), with a medium level HDI
of 0.79 (United Nations Development Program [UNDP], 2004). As to reduce the
pollution impacts, constant observation and evaluation should be carried out. In this
essay, we will discuss about the causes of increase the environmental pollution in
Malaysia meanwhile, to identify for solutions and make suggestions to solve and improve
the pollution impacts. The limitation to this suggestion is only being propose in Malaysia
and not in other country.

3
POLLUTION ISSUES

Causes of Environmental Pollution

There are three main causes of pollution in Malaysia firstly are the mining activities that
occur around Malaysia. For instance, ‘The ‘red dust’ scene, which pollutes the face of
Kuantan town, is due to bauxite mining activities’ (Mohd Shariza Abdullah, 2017).From
this mining activities, they are producing noise pollution, air pollution and water
pollution. Secondly, another cause of pollution is burning openly that can produce carbon
dioxide and contribute to haze problem and causes air pollution. For example, in
Selangor, Fire and Rescue Department deputy director-general (Operation) Datuk Soiman
Jahid said the main contributor to the haze problem at this time was the burning of a 12
hectares of forest reserve in Tanjung Sepat, Banting for illegal banal farming activities
(mStar, 2016). As an industrial country, this can be undone by certain plant that produce
pollution without they realize they are the cause of water pollution to their environment.
Journalist report that the owner of the palm oil processing plant which cause of ammonia
pollution at the Sembrong Barat Dam, Kluang after the company failed to properly
maintain the sewage of the plant (Mohd Sabran Md Sani, 2017).

4
Suggestions of Solutions

The suggestions of solutions are the community needs to be aware of it at the level of the
child so that continuity of love towards the environment can continue according to Prof.
Datuk Dr. Mazlin Mokhtar. We should make a subject from the school that can teach
them to love the environment and can take good care for future generation. Next,
Malaysia should implement vehicles to use catalytic converter in order to reduce the
amount of harmful pollution produced by cars. According to Hassel and Alton found a
catalytic converter is a device to reduce the amount of toxic emissions in the exhaust of
an internal combustion engine. Hence, catalytic converter can solve the air pollution that
cause from vehicle in Malaysia. Moreover, our government build more reserved forest to
reduce water pollution that been produce from industrial activity.

5
CONCLUSION

Finally, these three causes of pollution impacts can be dangerous in Malaysia if

not be controlled. The effects from the pollution its produce can affects our sight, hearing
and our body as it contains contaminant element. So, the solution that been suggest can
be success if all people can work together and determine to restore environment. In the
future, we want to see more technology not just can be modern but its also can be
environment-friendly. (549 Words Count)
