Breed: Angus Cattle

Other Name: Aberdeen Angus

Origin: Angus, breed of black, polled beef cattle, for many years known as Aberdeen Angus, originating
in northeastern Scotland. Its ancestry is obscure, though the breed appears closely related to the
curly-coated Galloway, sometimes called the oldest breed in Britain. The breed was improved
and the present type of the cattle fixed early in the 19th century by a number of constructive
breeders among whom Hugh Watson and William McCombie were the most famous.

Breed Purposes: The Angus cattle are mainly used for beef production. They are noted for their superior meat
quality.
Breed Size: Medium to Large
Weight: Bulls – Around 850 kg (1870 lb)
Cows – Around 550kg (1210 lb)
Body Confirmation: Muscular, large and short neck smoothly into muscular shoulder, the head is small in size
With a slightly protruding forehead, a short snout and a narrow head, short legs
Climate Tolerance: Adaptable to a wide range of climatic and geographical conditions
Coat and Color: Black or Red, the skin is thin, very loose, but subcutaneous tissue creates the appearance
of a thick skin.
Horn Status: Naturally polled
Milk: Angus cows are good for milking. Their milk is ultra-creamy and rich compare to
traditional milking breeds.
Rarity: Common
Special Notes: The breed grows very fast as compared to many other cattle breeds.
They usually mature fast and have a high carcass yield with nicely marbled meat.
They are also widely used for crossbreeding for improving carcass quality and milking abilities.
The cows are good mothers.
The Angus cattle are usually of very good behavior and they have relatively calm temperament.
Both bulls and cows are relatively very easy to care.
