 CONDICIONAL PROGRESIVO
El condicional progresivo (the conditional continuous o the conditional progressive ) se
usa para hablar de acciones que ocurrirían con la condición de que tuviera lugar otra
acción previa, tal como en el caso del condicional simple (the simple conditional ), pero
aquí se pone el acento en que esa acción se encontraría en curso en el momento de
mencionarla.
Por ejemplo:
Everybody would be dancing if the music were good. (Todos estarían bailando si la
música fuera buena.)
Cómo formar el condicional progresivo
El condicional progresivo se forma con el verbo to be (estar) en condicional, más un
gerundio (present participle ).

to be en condicional + gerundio
¡Veamos algunos ejemplos de frases que usan el condicional progresivo!
I’d be having fun if I felt better.
Me estaría divirtiendo si me sintiera mejor.

Everybody would be dancing if the music were good.

Todos estarían bailando si la música fuera buena.

We’d be playing outside if it didn’t rain.

Estaríamos jugando afuera si no lloviera.

Repaso de to be
El condicional progresivo se forma con el verbo to be en condicional. A continuación,
encontrarás un ejemplo de la conjugación del verbo to play (jugar) en el condicional
progresivo.
I would be playing.
Yo estaría jugando.

You would be playing.

Tú estarías jugando./Usted estaría jugando./Ustedes estarían jugando./Vosotros
estaríais jugando.

He/she would be playing.

Él/Ella estarían jugando.

We would be playing.
Nosotros estaríamos jugando.
 They would be playing.
Ellos/Ellas estaría jugando.

You se puede traducir como tú, usted, ustedes, vosotros o vos. Esto se debe al hecho de
que en inglés no hay distinciones formales de número o formalidad para la segunda
persona, aunque es común usar you guys o you all para dirigirse a un grupo de personas.
Formas negativas
Es muy fácil conjugar the conditional progressive en forma negativa. Simplemente usas
la palabra not después del auxiliar would.
Fórmula para la forma negativa
would not + be + gerundio

Comparemos la forma afirmativa con la forma negativa.

I would be drawing. I would not be drawing.

You would be talking. You would not be talking.

He would be working. He would not be working.

We would be writing. We would not be writing.

They would be dreaming. They would not be dreaming.

Formas interrogativas
Para hacer preguntas usando the conditional progressive, hay que invertir el sujeto y el
auxiliar de condicional would.
Fórmula para la forma interrogativa
would + sujeto + be + gerundio

Comparemos, ahora, la forma afirmativa con la forma interrogativa.

Contracciones con el conditional progressive

Es muy común usar contracciones del condicional de to be con el conditional progressive.
