Platform Components
Before addressing the actual licensing models, we first need to understand what the
main components of the UiPath Platform are and how they work together.
Studiois the tool used by RPA developers to build automation projects, which are then
performed by the robots. UiPath Studio is installed along with a Development Robot
which serves two purposes: on the one hand, it enables workflow execution on the local
machine, and, on the other hand, it ensures the ability to connect the local Studio
instance to Orchestrator.
To benefit from these capabilities, a Development license needs to be acquired.
Robotsexecute the processes designed in UiPath Studio. There are dedicated licenses
for each Robot type: Attended, Unattended and NonProduction.
The Attended robots collaborate with the users on business activities that require
human intervention, speeding up repetitive front-office tasks. They reside on the
employee's workstation and are perfect collaborators in service desk, helpdesk, and
call center activities.
The Unattended robots operate without human intervention, maximizing the cost and
performance benefits for any variety of back-office activity.
Those two Robot types only operate in the Production environment, as we'll explain in
a few moments.Ui

NonProduction robots are used in UAT or similar Pre-Production environments to test
the automation workflows before promoting them into Production. To prevent the
Production digital workforce from being entirely engaged in running tests,
NonProduction licenses can be obtained.
Finally, Orchestrator is a web-based management platform which provides remote
control and monitoring capabilities for the digital workforce, as well as license
management options.
Let's sum up.
The UiPath Platform components are: Orchestrator, Studio and Robot.
