Western Digital has taken the wraps off the world's highest-capacity hard

drive, the 15TB Utrastar DC HC620.

The 15TB Utrastar packs one more terabyte than last year's hard-drive record
setter, Western Digital's HSGT Ultrastar HS14. Since then Seagate has also
launched its 14TB hard drives.
The 3.5-inch HDD is targeted at the data center where the 15TB drive can be
slotted into a 4U rack to create a 900TB storage unit, or 60TB more than was
previously possible with 14TB hard drives in the same size chassis, according
to Western Digital.
Western Digital expects the new 15TB drives to be used to store video footage captured by smart city 4K surveillance
cameras, which can produce about 28TB over half a year.

This was the very first SSD to be announced and had maintained its position as the
largest storage drive worldwide until Seagate unveiled its own 60 TB SSD.
It has a capacity of holding 16 TB of data and uses 3D NAND technology, which
basically stores information vertically rather than horizontally (on a flat surface).
It boasts 1200 MB/s read, and 900 MB/s write speed performance, which makes it
very ideal for managing volumes of data that require a large capacity to store.

This drive sells at an average price of $10,000, a figure that may be too expensive for consumers looking for storage for
personal needs, but for enterprises, this is a steal.

An average DVD storage capacity is 4.7 GB, which is over six and a half times the size of a CD. This is
enough to store 120 minutes of high quality video (or 180 minutes of standard definition video),
which explains why movies weren't commonly stored on discs until DVDs became widely available.
Although audio storage on DVDs isn't particularly common, you could fit about six hours of CD-
quality audio on a DVD, or if you're using MP3s, a whopping 72 hours. Using the same size of image
as before (10 MB per picture), a DVD can store 470 images.

There are also other types of DVD – including dual-layer discs or double-sided discs – which increase the storage size
substantially. A dual-layer disc stores around 8.5 GB of data, while a double-sided disc stores 9.4 GB.

CES 2019 - SanDisk has just teased a new prototype flash drive at CES 2019, something the
company is proudly touting is the world's highest capacity USB drive on the market with 4TB of
storage.

The new 4TB flash drive has a USB-C connector for super-fast transfers, with no details on speeds,
specs, or pricing. Right now a huge 2TB flash drive costs $1000 or more, we can only expect the
4TB drive to at least cost $2000, and could easily go for $2500 and beyond given its premium.
