1 Purpose
To identify environmental aspects of the activities, products, and services; evaluate the
impacts in order to determine the significant aspects.

5 Responsibility
- Refer EHS Governance Model for responsibilities of Sector EHS representative and
Div EHS Officer.
- EHS Working Group:
EHS working group appointed by the Factory / Site EHS officer, in consultation with the
respective Factory heads / Project Manager / other experts as needed, is responsible to:
a) Identify the environmental aspects and its impacts due to the activities, products and
services in the Factory / Site
b) Decide the criterion for determination of significant aspects
c) Evaluate the impacts accordingly and determine significant aspects
6 Methodology
The detailed methodology for identifying aspects and determining which aspects have
significant impacts on the environment is described below.

2. Based on whether the activity leads to or has the potential to EHS working

- Normal operating conditions
- Abnormal operating conditions including start-up and
shut-down
- Emergency conditions and accidents
3. Finalize the details under Item 1 & 2 above with EHS work- Factory / Site
ing group for adequacy and completeness (use attachment 7 EHS officer
(a), also refer sample on Pg 6)
4. Evaluate identified environmental impacts with EHS working Factory / Site
group on the basis of Environmental Concerns on a scale EHS officer
of 1 to 5 as follows:
- Scale of the impact (S)
- Severity of the impact (S)
- Probability of occurrence of impact (P)
- Duration of the impact (D)
Refer Annexure 1 for various criterion for evaluation of im-
pacts as per the SSPD model.
5. Evaluate identified environmental impacts with EHS working Factory / Site
group on the basis of Business Concerns as follows: EHS officer
Probable Business Opportunities:
An aspect is identified as significant when there is a busi-
ness opportunity by way of revenue generation / resource
saving of a significant amount per annum. The EHS working
group shall discuss and finalise the estimated revenue gen-
eration / savings with their factory heads / project managers.
Legal Requirements:
An aspect is identified as significant if its impact requires any
legal compliance.
Interested Party’s Concern:
Interested parties include public, suppliers, customers,
stakeholders, government bodies and employees. Any as-
pect is considered as an ‘interested party concern’, if there
are three or more complaints on the same aspect from the
same interested party within a calendar year.
The evaluation of the aspect will also depend on existing
controls in place and whether the aspect is a start up or shut
down activity.

6. Classify impacts leading to an Emergency Conditions as Factory / Site
significant irrespective of their evaluation based on Business EHS officer
or Environmental Concerns.
7. Identify impacts which are significant on the basis of cut-off Factory / Site
score of SSPD (multiplication of the allocated values of EHS officer /
scale, severity, probability & duration). EHS working

Note :
This shall be done by taking into consideration feedback re-
ceived through site-visits & interviews with concerned per-
sonnel by EHS Working Group. Feedback received is ana-
lysed activity wise with respect to environmental impacts and
is considered as significant when the SSPD Score is greater
than 40. The EHS Working Group shall have the discretion
to select Aspects as significant with a score lower than 40.
9. For significant environmental aspects, establish: Factory / Site
- Objective / Target to reduce its significance EHS officer
- Operational control procedures
- Environment Management Programmes (as per attach-
ment 7 (b), also refer sample on Pg 7), as applicable
10. Retain the completed ‘evaluation of aspects and impacts’. Factory / Site
EHS officer
11. Review and update above evaluation of aspects and impacts Factory / Site
on minimum annual basis (or earlier as required) taking into EHS officer
consideration:
- Any changes in the existing processes.
- Any changes in factory / site layout with respect to ma-
chinery and equipment (old/new).
- Any new process, service, product or activity introduced.
