economic contexts. However, for traditional festivals, three characteristics quoted above are unique
features, constant; just their performance is able to change to suit with different social contexts. These
have meanings in both theory and practice for rehabilitation, preservation, development of festivals
nowadays. Rebuilding which fades out characteristics of traditional festivals naturally deforms and
destroys them.

8. Four warnings about organizing traditional festivals in present:
We are always worried and anxious about traditional festival nowadays. Because of long wars, incorrect
conceptions, organization and management of festivals have been arising inadequacies as well as
limitations. These are usually reflected through the media, conferences, and seminars. Some quite
alarming phenomenon:
 Festivals are monotonous: in current years, festivals are at the risk of simplifying. Each festival
is similar to others, which made festivals lose their diversity; travellers just join in such festivals
a few times because they feel boring with the festivals.
 Festivals are worldly: while being rebuilt, developed, festivals become worldly, which means
they lose the sanctity, sublimation because people haven’t comprehended fully sacred
meanings of festivals, they hold festivals symbolically.
 Festivals are commercial: distinguishing between trading activities in festivals and commercial
festivals. In current years, beside the trend of recovering and developing the festivals, a lot of
commercial activities take (unfair) advantage of festivals for illegal business, moreover; some
organizations acting as deputy for management of festival and tourism sell tickets to raises
money illicitly from tourist joining in the festivals. These activities are against the sanctity and
culture of festivals, which make festivals sink to the lowest level of worldly life.
9. After all, traditional festivals are special cultural activities which are very true to the life; contain a
wide range of historic, cultural and social values. Festivals have met demands of Vietnamese people
both in the past and present, helped them overcome individuality and forward to community solidarity,
with the full of innovation to come into cultural values. Festivals bear a large number of the hallmark
of national cultural identity, direct people towards the patriotic spirit. It is really necessary to aware,
preserve, develop and appreciate of the true value of traditional festivals so that the value of festivals
