INTRODUCTION

Our gratitude goes to the Almighty because of His grace and guidance we can
complete the proposal submitted by this Practical Work (KP), which is planned to be
implemented in PT. PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN which will
be held in more or less for 2 (two) months.
Practical Work is one of the requirements that must be completed to complete
the S1 Physics Study Program, Kalimantan Institute of Technology. field following
the field of Physics. more about the subjects of basic Geophysics, Basic Geology,
Structural Geology.
Hopefully, this Practical Work Proposal can be useful for us specifically and
for Physics students at the Kalimantan Institute of Technology for now and in the
future.

BAB I
PRELIMINARY

1.1 BACKGROUND
Along with the rapid progress of human civilization, especially Indonesia, each
individual must improve their quality to be able to be a solution to a variety of
problems. The quality of individuals possessed by the Indonesian people is certainly
expected to be a competent individual and able to compete globally. active in the era
of globalization, it is necessary for careful preparation and planning. The rapid
development of science and technology requires universities to prepare quality
graduates. This can be achieved with the support and participation of various parties.
The Kalimantan Institute of Technology as one of the Central Institute of
Technology has various study programs spread across various Departments, one of
which is the Physics study program. The Physics study program oversees three areas
of interest, namely:
 Geophyscis
 Material
 Instrumentation
As one of the fields of interest, Geophysics must be able to create graduates
who are experts in their fields and be able to apply the knowledge gained in college.
Students of the Physics Study Program have been equipped with various kinds of
science, both basic and applied sciences. The sciences studied are:
1. Basic science includes: Basic physics, Calculus, English, Introduction to Statistical
Methods, and Basic Chemistry.
2. Applied science includes: Basic Geophysics, Basic Geology, Waves, Numerical
Methods, Structural Geology, and Earth Electricity Exploration
In order to realize these objectives collaborations between the Institute and
related institutions is needed as a forum for students to apply knowledge and provide

an overview of the reality that will be encountered when completing studies at higher
education. One related institution is PT. PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM
BALIKPAPAN is a company engaged in oil and gas exploration.
As a state university in Kalimantan based on science and technology, the
Kalimantan Institute of Technology has a great opportunity to collaborate with various
types of industries or institutions in Kalimantan, especially in East Kalimantan
Province. With good cooperation between the two parties, starting from the
preparation program for practical work by the Institute and the support of company
managers or related agencies. Practical work (partners) it is expected that the
implementation of practical work can benefit both parties.
Not only to establish cooperation and to provide benefits, but it is hoped that
the Physics students of the Kalimantan Institute of Technology get a picture of the real
working world of Geophysicists through experience while in the company. As a forum
for students to apply both theoretical and practical knowledge gained on campus to the
actual conditions in the company. Understand the relationship between Geophysical
data and Geological data through correlation analysis to obtain logical subsurface
information and approach the actual conditions. Able to interpret through the
processing of existing data to resolve various real cases in the oil and gas industry such
as determining the prospect zone, determining the point of drilling, calculating the
volume of reserves and others.

BAB II
PURPOSE AND BENEFITS OF WORKING PRACTICE

2.1 Purpose of Practice

The objectives to be achieved from this practical work are as follows:
1. Students are expected to be able know and know how to use the software
used in the processing and intrepetation of data exploration of oil and gas
resources at PT.PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN to
determine whether a location or region has good potential oil and gas
resources
2. Students are expected to be able to observe data collection of oil and gas
resources and be able to process data exploration of oil and gas resources
properly and correctly
3. Students are expected to be able to know the importance and role of
PT.PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN towards the public at
large with a service process and policy determination
4. Train students in dealing with the world of work.

2.2 THE BENEFITS OF PRACTICAL WORK

2.2.1 For Students
Students can apply the knowledge gained during the lecture period and can
learn as well as theoretically compare the courses accepted with the actual field
conditions, so that later it is expected to be responsive and sensitive in dealing
with situations and conditions in the work environment that have insight,
knowledge, and experience as an educated generation to engage in society,
especially in the industrial environment.

2.1.2 For the Kalimantan Institute of Technology, in particular, the Physics

Study Program
As an additional material to evaluate the extent to which the curriculum has
been applied to print a skilled workforce in their field and know the processes
and technologies that are developing at this time. And also to build a cooperative
relationship with PT. PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN so that
the mission of the Physics Study Program of the Kalimantan Institute of
Technology can be achieved, which is to become a center of education, research,
and development of superior physics and its application in technology in eastern
Indonesia through empowering the potential of Kalimantan in 2025.

2.1.3 For Companies Concerned

Can utilize potential Community Resources (SDM) by students, to help
complete the work contained in the company were carrying out practical work, as
well as a means to bridge the cooperative relationship between companies and
educational institutions in the future, especially regarding recruitment of workers.

BAB III
METHODOLOGY

3.1 Place of Work Practice Implementation

Practical Work Will be carried out at PT. PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM
BALIKPAPAN having its address at Jalan Yos Sudarso No.1, Karang Jati,
Mekar Sari, Central Balikpapan, Mekar Sari, Central Balikpapan, Balikpapan
City, East Kalimantan 76111, Indonesia

3.2 Timing of Practical Work Implementation

Regarding the implementation of Practical Work (KP), we hope that the Job
Training can take place on July 1 - August 31 or adjusted to the acceptance and
availability of time from PT. PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM
BALIKPAPAN. We as students (applicants) have high hopes for the acceptance
of this proposal so that we can conduct Practical Work (KP) in the company that
you lead.

3.3 Type of Activity

The activities that will be carried out by practical work students at PT.
PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN includes the introduction
and topic giving to practical work students, study staff, studies, and preparation
of practical work reports. Following is the description of each activity:
1. Introduction and Giving of Topics
It is a stage where practical work students get to know better about PT.
PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN, both from history and
existing units. As well as the giving of topics by the field supervisor to
practical work students, this aims to make students get restrictions on
things that must be understood during practical work.

2. Study of Literature
It is a stage where students work on practical reinforcement of theories
and the application of required courses during practical work at PT.
PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN.
3. Field Orientation
Conduct exploration and data collection directly in the field or location
and then perform data processing and data interpretation with software to
know whether the area has good oil and gas potential.
4. Preparation of Reports
This is the stage where practical work students compile practical work
reports
The implementation of these stages adjusted to the conditions of the company
concerned.

PENUTUP

Kami selaku mahasiswa dari Institut Teknologi Kalimantan menginginkan

terciptanya Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM) yang berkualitas yang mampu
berkompetensi sehingga dapat menjawab tantangan dan kebutuhan dunia industri
di era globalisasi khususnya di bidang minyak dan gas bumi serta
membandingkan antara teori yang pernah kami dapat dengan keadaan yang ada
di lapangan.
Demikian proposal permohonan ini kami buat untuk dapat dijadikan sebagai
bahan pertimbangan. Besar harapan kami semoga agar kiranya dari pihak PT.
PERTAMINA HULU MAHAKAM BALIKPAPAN bersedia memberikan
