Designers communicate through visual means.

OUTLINE OF TASK

Part 1: Knowing and understanding (At home)

Goal:
You will create a one page A4 document sharing your research on what makes good graphic design
(Debatable question).
What are the elements and principles? How are these used in graphic design? How do designers convey
their messages?
You will research one of the designers below, and create your document mimicking (imitating) their
style. You will need to be creative!
You should experiment with layout!

Part 2: Thinking creatively (in class)


Role:
You are a graphic designer. Your client, AIA, have asked you to create a front cover for the school
magazine.

Goal:
Your design should be produced using pencil and coloured pencil as an A4 design. There is no restriction
on the number of colours. You should include the school logo.
You will need to research, brainstorm & plan your cover in your visual diary.

Consider the following;

 What will your cover represent and what mood will it convey?
 What images can be included? Will they be photographs or drawn elements? or both?
 Will you focus on images to represent students? student life? the IB ethos, Muslim values?
 How will you use text? How will you use colour?
 Consider layout, images, colour, font etc. Be bold and creative! Do something different. If using
images, use your own images or those taken by the school. DO NOT use images from the web.
