How  to  Find  Somfy  Products  on  a  Network

Description
IP addresses are how computers find other computers across networks and the Internet. An IP address is made
up by four numbers separated by ".". A typical IP address is 192.16.1.10. IP addresses are not user friendly and
are difficult to remember. To help, Somfy uses DNS addresses to simply finding devices on a network. These
DNS addresses are the same as domain names used every day on the Internet. For example, google.com is a
DNS address for its server IP address of 173.194.40.197. Typing 173.194.40.197 in your web browser will bring
you to the same location as google.com.

Somfy products have DNS addresses that can be used instead of a IP address. However, depending on the
configuration of a computer or network, DNS addresses do not always work. This guide will assist in finding the
IP address of a Somfy product on a network

This guide will help find IP addresses for:

SDN IP Interface - DNS address   http://somfy

animeo IP Building Controller - DNS address - http://buco.animeo

4. Add Ports to search for (22,23,80,10000).

5. Click “OK”.

Running the scan

1. Find the IP subnet
The IP subnet is the first three numbers in the IP address. In the address
192.168.1.213, the subnet would be 192.168.1. The IP subnet can vary from network to
network. Angry IP scanner populates the subnet for you based on your current network
connection, but in a complex network this may not always be correct. If you are unable
to find Somfy products, please contact the IT vendor to determine the proper subnet.

2. Set the scan range

To search every possible address in the subnet set the range to 1-254. The range set
here will likely not match the screenshot. When setting the range it is important to keep
the IP subnet the same as what Angry IP Scanner has set it to (unless you know the
correct subnet). It is the last digit of the IP address that is to be adjusted, so if the IP
range when Angry IP Scanner was opened was 10.3.1.2-10.3.1.2, then it should be
adjusted to 10.3.1.1- 10.3.1.254.

a. Click the “Start” button.

3. Reading the Results

a. Once the scan has ended a report will be shown, press “Close”.

b. The scan tried every IP address in the range and attempted to connect to the
ports we configured earlier. The results come back color coded

Page  2

Red - Nothing is connected at this IP address, Ignore.

Blue - Something active at this IP address but it is not responding to the Somfy ports

Green - A device is active at this IP address and has
responded to the ports that Somfy uses

We want to focus on all IP addresses that have a green indicator.

4. Vetting the Results

a. Just because an IP address shows a green indicator, does not mean that it is a
Somfy product, just that it is using the same ports as a Somfy product. Based on
which ports report back, an educated guess can be made to what the device
actually is.

Animeo IP Building Controller only reports ports 22,80 and 10000

SDN IP Interface only reports ports 23, and   80

b. Many IP addresses may report the same ports as a Somfy device. To see if you
have found the correct IP address you can connect to the discovered IP address
in a Web Browser

c. If the proper Somfy page responds then the correct IP address has been found.
