Sypnosis: In 1950, a dog named Toby was born, whose short life ends a few weeks later
when he was sacrificed while playing with his brothers. He thought the purpose of that
life was to have fun.
In 1961 Toby reincarnates as another caged dog who is rescued by a good-hearted
mother and eight-year-old son Ethan Montgomery, who convince Ethan's father to be
raised at home, and named him Bailey. A strong bond is created between Ethan and
Bailey for several years in which his father has become an alcoholic. Ethan becomes
Hannah's boyfriend, planning to go to the same university. Months later Ethan receives
a full scholarship to the state of Michigan for his excellent game, but that night an envious
partner named Todd burns Ethan's house and it is Bailey who warns that his mother is
inside the house. During the rescue Ethan and his mother can only go out the second
floor window. Ethan falls severely fracturing a missing leg his sports scholarship. Todd
is taken to prison. Ethan falls into depression, ends his relationship with Hannah and
leaves to manage his grandparents' farm. Bailey gets old, sick and dies. His purpose
was Ethan.
In 1970 Bailey reincarnated in a police bitch named Ellie, whose owner is a sad widowed
officer named Jakob with whom he forms a bond and works hard. Ellie is shot dead by
the kidnapper of a girl who has saved herself from drowning. In this life his purpose was
the hard work of "searching" and "finding."
In 1980 he reincarnated in another dog called Tino by his owner, a university student
named Maya who, feeling alone, pretends to find some happiness in the dog. Maya
becomes Al's girlfriend, and Tino falls in love with Roxy, Al's dog. Her purpose was Roxy
until she didn't come back from the vet and Tino went into depression dying a short time
later.
In 2000 he reincarnated in another dog called Waffles, but after several years he was
abandoned in a lot, returning to the rural area where he lived as Bailey. He meets his
former owner Ethan who names him Buddy. Ethan is 50 years old and marries Hannah
(who was a widow). Buddy answers key phrases so Ethan recognizes his friend
Bailey. The new purpose is to be happy.
