Slump test
Introduction
The mixer of concrete

2 0.50 145
3 0.60 165
4 0.70 185

Sample 1 Sample 3

Sample 2 Sample 4
Problem faced during the experiment
The ratio of water was measured wrongly due to the scale of the container. The weight scale also has
problem during the experiment. Our group member forget to weighing the container before weighing
the cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate. However, it does not influence a lot to our result.
Next time, we should to be prepared and focus during doing the experiment to get the best results.
Why the slump result are different
The slump result are different because the amount of water. The more water, the higher the slump
result.
Importance of a proper water to cement ratio
A proper water to cement ratio is important because the concrete is gain more strength if the water is
increase. The more value of water, the higher the slump test. The concrete with higher water cement
ratio is value than the concrete with lowest water cement ratio.
Discussion based on concrete works
Based from the results, sample 1 is 45 mm that specified slump class in S2 refer to the identity criteria
slump specified as a slump class. It is because not less than 40 and not more than 110. Then, for
sample 2 which is 145 mm and sample 3 is 165 specified slump class in S3 which is not less than 90
and not more than 170. Sample 3 also can be classified as S4 which is not less than 150 and not more
than 230. Lastly, for sample 4 which is 185 was categorized as S4 which is not less than 150 and not
more than 230.

Sample 4 (28 days) Sample 5 (28 days) Sample 6 (28 days)

Problem faced during experiment

The weather during doing the experiment was good until 24 hours after it was suddenly raining
heavily that influenced the condition of the concrete. The mixer of concrete a bit smooth because the
water of cement ratio is higher.
Why the compressive strength is different between 7 and 28 days?
Concrete gain strength with time after casting. It takes much time for concrete to gain 100% strength
and the time for the same is still unknown. The rate of gain of concrete compressive strength in higher
during the first 28 days of casting and then it slows down. At the age 7 days the strength per cent is
only 65% while at the age 28 days is 99%.
The importance curing in this experiment
The curing is important to gain the strength of concrete. It can harden the concrete and avoid become
dehydrated.
Discussion
Based on the results from the experiment, at the age 28 days it should be 30 MPa while at the age 7
days it should be 20 MPa. There was a bit difference between our experiment and JKR Standard
Specification for Building Works 2014. At the age 28 days the concrete only achieve 19.6 MPa and at
the ages 7 days it achieve at 16.04 MPa.
