Managing Learning
Comments:
- Shamsa asks onyxes come to the table area first; then the falcons, etc.
- Transitions are relatively well managed
- Behavioral and classroom management continues to be good overall.
Implementing Learning
Comment:
- The starter was very good, but I believe that more VISUALS were required in order to consolidate the
learning. It became apparent during the student activity that many students struggled with the task.
They were asking a lot of content related questions (i.e. many were still unable to identify basic gases
or liquids or solids). A Power Point presentation used to do a Q&A (pics of gases and liquids and
solids) could have helped …. for example.
- Planning a cooperative task would have been another way of providing much needed support for
students. Individual work – and the fact that students were given different tasks/instructions – only
made the task more difficult.
- Objects at the center of each table could also have been used – at the start of the lesson – to
reinforce learning about solids, liquids and gases.
- Some great cooperative activities were set up as extension activities and students are very happy
working on these together. Why not do these as the first/main activity?
See back
- Painting using ice is another super FUN and tactile activity that was set up at the back of the class 😊
Kids really enjoyed this activity!
- Shamsa affirmed that the plenary activity (which I did not get to see, unfortunately) was at the
students’ level and they enjoyed it very much!
Action Plan:
Once more, I urge Shamsa to teach MORE and MORE (not less and less) in order to continue improving her
practice and to improve on little errors such as the ones made today.
Shamsa, please continue teaching and co-teaching every chance that you get, from now until the end of Teaching
Practice.
