SELF REFLECTION REPORT DUE DATE: ONE WEEK AFTER PRESENTATION

Name of the Presenter: ______________________

Topic of the Presentation: DIRECT METHOD IN EDUCATION

1) What did you like about your presentation? Why?

✂All of us would agree that our presentation was in no way exceptional or satisfactory. However, it wasn't all
out dreadful as it had some redeeming qualities which we liked. First of all, we liked that we all got to make our
own separate demos which just so happens to be a "misunderstanding" on our behalf. Even though we
supposedly weren't supposed to do so, it was fun seeing different kinds of demos including PowerPoint slides,
impromptu language teaching and even visuals with students reenacting what they learned. We also liked that
we got straight to the point in explaining our method during our first presentation. We believe that everyone has
definitely understood our method clearly and would be able to differentiate it from previous and future methods.
It seems that the class was able to grasp the method even more just because of how much our demos were
disorganized in subject and level. As they say a bad example sticks better than a normal or "good" one. They'll
probably remember these examples with certainty. We also believe that our timing was on spot which is great.
Last but not least we really liked that our presentation as a whole was really fun, especially some of the demos.
Seeing how it made the class laugh and be more involved was truly remarkable.

2) If you had the chance to change something, what would you have done differently in your presentation?
Why?

✂We would have definitely fixed the big "misunderstanding" and instead of making multiple separate demos
we would make just one big demo. But we would also keep like to teach our own part in the demos with
different materials and activities. It would be one big demo but some of us would teach it as an impromptu
speaking lesson, some of us would bring pictures and maybe even items related to the subject and the rest of us
could go more traditional with teaching from a slideshow or using the whiteboard. This would unify the subject
and demo but let the students see just how you can use multiple techniques just for one method. This would give
them an understanding on how they as future teachers can diversify their own lessons while they only use a
single method. Obviously, it would be better if they use a diverse selection of both methods and techniques.
Another thing that we would've obviously liked to change is making a demo which has a subject set on a
specific level. Us having multiple demos with "different topics" wasn't much of an issue but having a lot of
inconsistency in each demo "individually" was the main problem. Obviously, language and speaking mistakes
need to be improved regardless of this presentation because of our department and future needs.

3) How did you feel when you presented your subject? Why?

✂ We can all agree that we mostly felt confident and ready presenting the first half of our subject but when it
came to the demos it was kind of sad. We got informed literally minutes beforehand that what we did was
"wrong" and would affect us negatively on our evaluation. Therefore, effectively crushing our will and
determination. Obviously mistakes like this will diminish anybody's morale but the show had to go on and go on
it did. We at least felt relieved knowing that everybody had understood our method crystal clear and that there
was no confusion. Obviously, we were also a bit excited and anxious, some of us more than the rest. We also
had some mispronunciations which is a given for any presentation. All of this obviously made us sad but there
was no point, so we carried on. But besides being this dismal we also felt kind of happy knowing that we got
through and tried our best with what we had planned. As it neared the end of our presentation a genuine kind of
relief filled us which did boost our confidence a tad bit. But speaking generally since the whole thing was
rushed it made us feel a variety of things from being stuck to being hesitant. Obviously being the first group to
present did bring that classic feeling of being lab rats. Other than all this, we could all agree that we feel much
better now than when we were presenting.
