Policy Research - 4 week placement Dec 2011 – Jan 2012


Offices of Member for Darebin – Michael Honest MP

I took the initiative to organise an unpaid placement in the local office of a federal MP. After
a few days of observation and training, I was given responsibility of working on an issue that
was being debated in the local community.

Achievements:
 Responded to over 50 local constituent email and phone queries
 Updated the website content and added a new FAQ section which proved popular
 Wrote an analysis of the views of the community on this issue and presented the
paper to the Member for Darebin

Legal Assistant June 2012 – Dec 2012


Eltham Legal Service

As part of a community volunteering program at University, I volunteered at the Eltham


Legal Service to perform reception and clerical duties, which included providing details on
services available to members of the public seeking legal support.

Achievements:
 Undertook initial client intake interviews when Legal Assistant was unavailable, which
resulted in clients feeling satisfied that they were being assisted
 Completed accurate entry of confidential new client records onto database

Sportsgirl, Northland

My role at Sportsgirl involved supervision of a team of 7 casual staff in a fast paced retail
environment; providing friendly, efficient service and advice to a diverse clientele; inducting
and training of new casual staff; handling customer complaints calmly and diplomatically;
and overseeing all stock displays and in-store promotions.

Achievements:
 Achieved highest store sales for Melbourne region in first half of 2012
 Awarded ‘Customer Service Champaign of the Month’ twice at Sportsgirl
 Provided weekly reports to store management on team sales achievements

Coach May 2011 – Dec 2012


Eltham Gymnastics

As gymnastics coach, I developed training session plans and organized travel to venues for
the under 14’s girls team; taught skills and provided feedback to the athletes and their
parents. In addition I taught a Women’s Artistic Gymnastics class 2 nights per week.

Achievement:
 Coached the Under 14’s team to 2011 National Finals in Brisbane – Won Silver medal

Tutor Feb – Nov 2011


I provided private tutoring of a Year 11 student weekly throughout school year in
mathematics and Mandarin. Each week I created lesson plans and assessment tasks, and
liaised with parents to discuss progress and learning strategies.

Achievement:
 Student achieved VCE ‘A’ grades for both mathematics and mandarin

research for studies in research methods in sociology
 Successfully designed a new survey instrument for use in the above interviews
