Katawhayan sa Eskwelahan: A training on ecoliteracy, campus security, and disaster risk


reduction

Rationale:
With the rise of threat to safety and well-being brought by man-induced and natural disasters, it
is an imperative that the school, as one of the shaping institutions, equips its stakeholders with
the knowledge and skills in mitigating risks. Realizing the active role that ACC plays in creating
a learning environment that is stimulating, supportive, and safe for its learner, this training is
proposed.
In this training, the active role of learners in helping supporting this environment. Thus, it is
sectioned in three coordinated parts: lecture, workshop, and output presentation with
feedbacking. This training will focus on solid waste management, campus security, and
response to quake and fire.

Objectives:
This training aims form the learners to become more conscious, independent, and pro-active in
supporting the programs of the school in promoting a clean, safe, and secured learning
environment.
With this, the learners are expected to come up with the following outputs.
1. Assessment of ACC Campus
2. Propose actions/practices in improving the cleanliness, safety, and security of ACC
In a longer term, the students are be able to:
1. identify sources of threats or hazard;
2. assess the extent of the threat or hazard present in the environment;
3. respond calmly and methodically in times of danger or disaster;
4. report to the authority or more abled others suspicious objects, persons and/or
transactions; and
5. practice sound measures in keeping the environment a clean and safe place to learn,
socialize, and work.

Closing message
Guidelines in workshop and presentation
1. Each group (session) will be divided into 9 smaller teams.
2. Assignment of task for the 9 teams will be as follows:
a. 3 teams with tasks in eco-literacy
b. 3 teams with tasks in disaster risk reduction
c. 3 teams with tasks in campus security
3. After the instructions for the workshop and the presentation is given, the teams will
proceed to their assigned rooms for the workshop.
4. The workshop will focus on assessment of the campus ground and proposal of good
practices.
5. The team leader will randomly pick in a box the area of the workshop.
6. Each team will be assigned a facilitator (a teacher or a student leader) to assist in the
group work and in the presentation.
7. Each team will be given 3 hours to collaborate in performing the task. Each team may
divide the tasks into even smaller groups to ensure participation of each member.
8. In the task, the team members will go around the campus and note of the condition of
the grounds in terms of the area assigned to them.
9. After going around, the team members will convene to talk about their observations,
identify points for improvement, and brain storm on possible practices ________.
10. A report sheet will be given to the team where they can write their output.
11. The report sheet shall be submitted to the facilitator after the collaboration.
12. For the presentation shall be done at the gym or at the covered court.
13. Each team will be given 10 to 15 minutes for presentation.
14. The presentation may be in a form of an audio-visual report, a skit, a jingle, a dance, a
simulation of forum, etc.
15. After each presentation, a five-minute feedbacking will be done. The feedback will come
from the team facilitators.

Post training
At the end of the training, the outputs of the learners will be collected and processed. By
analysing the outputs of the learner, the pool of facilitators will work together to:
1. collect information on the assessment of the cleanliness, security, and disaster
preparedness of the ACC Campuses; and
2. identify programs and practices that can be institutionalized.
