Reading/Language Arts
In Language Arts our learning targets this week have included:
*review of the short “u” vowel sounds
*ending consonant blends like mp, nt, st, nk, and nd. . . .
*Sight word review
*blending sounds
* SPELLING is going well! We continue to practice in some way every day!
*recognizing exclamatory sentences as a sentence that shows a strong feeling!
“I’m so excited!” or “That was scary!”
*cause & effect – This is a harder concept for many students. Cause is what
makes something else happen. Effect is the result. For example, when
people clear land of it’s trees (cause) animals lose their homes (effect). When
it rains (cause), we have to cancel our picnic (effect).
In writing this week we worked on our personal narratives. We have such
great ideas but are still struggling to add details and dialogue to our writing.
Today we watched a video where they “explode” a moment to make it more
interesting and exciting! Our writing is a work in progress for sure!
Special Note: We just completed a 6 week language Arts unit. On
Monday, we will be taking our next Unit Test! I am excited to see how we will
do!

*Needed: We are in need of snacks!!
If you are out and about this weekend
we could use crackers, pretzels, or
whatever is healthy and comes in
bulk for students who forget a snack!

*Happy Thanksgiving:
As I looked for a graphic
for Thanksgiving I found
this! I thought it was so
cute! I pray you have a
blessed Thanksgiving and that it is
filled with good food, fellowship, and
rest! The next weeks are busy and
stressful for so many! This weekend
is a great time to relax, reboot, and
be grateful for all that we have. I am
so grateful for my family, friends,
colleagues, class, and all of you for
your support of what I do! I am
privileged to teach your children!
In Math this week we have been
practicing mixed story problems. We
are getting ready for our Unit testing
next week before break! Our learning
targets have included:
*solving subtraction story problems and
equations
* creating & solving subtraction number
stories
*relating addition & subtraction
situations (writing both and
addition/subtraction equation to solve
a problem!
*practicing mixed story problems
We have worked really hard on
writing our equation to match the story
problem. We have also learned that the
word some represents the unknown
number and when we circle that like a
number it can help us write a correct
equation. AGAIN, our problem is not
correct math BUT careful reading and
correct equations to solve!
We will be testing next week and
there will be no homework! I know you
will be thankful for a few nights off!
Social Studies
This week we started talking
about groups that we belong
to. We each belong to 3 types
of groups: family groups,
school groups, and community
groups! We have talked about
how our families all look
different. Some of us live in
houses, while others live in
condos or apartments! Some
of us have brothers and sisters,
and others are only children!
Some have a grandparent living
with them! More importantly,
ALL of us have a family that
loves and cares for us. Our
family provides us with the
things we need (can’t live
without) and want (things we
would like to have but don’t
really need like toys)! This is
the basis for our SERVICE
Learning Project in which we
are adopting a family for the
holidays in order to provide
wants & needs for them!
