Course Description

The course aims to help students achieve proficiency in language use, develop skills in listening
comprehension, improve reading comprehension, use the conventions of standard written English with
skill and assertion, build-up vocabulary, and clearly and accurately reproduce specific data. It will
illustrate the force and effectiveness of simple and direct English.

Course Objective

To enhance students’ linguistic command so they could 1. communicate effectively in diversified socio-
cultural situations; 2. create larger stretches of interactive text in speech and writing; and 3. identify
and repair any instances of potential communication break-up.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, the students will demonstrate language competency by
being able to: 1. understand basic concepts of language learning 2. apply basic structures of English
language, and 3. tailor messages according to context and register

Teaching and Learning Methodology

Medium of instruction will be English. Instructional methods will incorporate following techniques:
Quizzes/Assignments Problem Solving/Class Activities Lectures/Class Discussions and Student
Presentations Role plays and Projects

Expected Class Conduct

1. All students are expected to be on time for their class. Any student reaching 60 minutes after the
starting time will be marked late and anyone reaching after 120 minutes will be marked absent. 2.
During class discussions, students must exhibit best of their manners and etiquette and utilise turn-
taking and other strategies to maintain class decorum. 3. Attire and hygiene must be taken care of. No
one will be allowed in class in shorts, pyjamas, chappals, etc. 3. Students unable to submit any
assignments on due date should discuss the matter in advance with the professor. At the professor’s
discretion, late assignments may be accepted. In such cases, late penalty will be applied. 4. Due dates
for assignment will be announced in the class. Students are responsible for keeping track of these
dates. There will be no makeup quiz or midterm for any reason whatsoever. 5. Success in this course is
based heavily on class participation; therefore, attendance and active class participation is essential to
a student’s success.

Attendance Policy

Prompt arrival and regular attendance are extremely important. For Academic policy refer to student
