Dear Amanda,
Congratulations again on being chosen for a grant, particularly as we had a large number of excellent proposals for this round. Your grant award is the full $750.
The review committee felt you need to create a stronger framework for the module, and to move beyond identifying statistics that relate to an international issue, by
organizing the module around issues instead of countries. Examples of issues include water, education, migration, environmental issues, human rights, gender
issues, etc. Our suggestion is rather than having each student create an individual webpage, students could work in groups to input their particular statistics into a
larger framework. For example you could create web pages for global issues such as water, migration, population, and education. Then students would get choose
a particular country and be responsible for filling in data about their country related to each issue. Also, we think this would add depth to the class
discussions/blogs. For additional resources we recommend:
Comparative Data Sets: Oxford University Press Comparative Welfare States Data Set
World Bank Development Reports
OECD
UNdata
When you do your research visit you will be able to work with specialists to indentify further resources.
I’d like to go over the procedures and requirements for this grant.
In order to provide a better resource for other instructors, we require that grantees supply more detailed information after they have taught the course with the
international modules. This information includes lecture titles and/or outlines, discussion topics, case studies, student projects, additional resources, etc.
