Lesson 1 : ship familiarization
Date :

General design of merchant vessel

a.Accomodation

The accomodation consists of spaces onboard the ship which are

set apart for the crew

b.Losed
Portholes are the windows in the cabins.

c.Galley
The galley is the kitchen area used for food preparation.

d.Cabin

The following are some of the general precautions taken for
environmental protetction :

a. Tangkers are designed with double hulls to reduce the risk of tank
rupture.
b. Shipas are required to carry a plan of action to deal with environmental
threats in an emergency.
c. Proper equipment and training in its use is provided for all ships
personnel.
d. Garbage disposal procedures are in place

For dealing with such emergrncies two pleces of equipment are

vital to limit the risk or damage :
a. life saving equipment
b. communication equipment

communication equiptment
communication equiptment onboard provides the link for ship to ship and
ship to shore in the event of an emergency.

The global maritime distress and safety system (GMDSS) provides the facility
onboard to send distress alerts to other ships and to the shore
autohorities.

Flooding

To protect from catastrophic flooding the structural integrity of a vessel is

critical. This is especially true in the case of heavy weather or in the event
of an accident.
To prevent flooding on ship the following precautions are taken :

a. subdividing the ships into small watertight compartnets.

b. Selecting quality approved material for ship construction.
c. Providing watertight doors and hatch-covers
d. Providing detection system for flooding
e. Providing pumping system for emergency purpose.
f. Providing load indicators for accuarate ship stability calculations.
Fire
Fire is one the greatest hazards onboard a ship.
Risks with this hazards are reduced by :
a. Ship design restricting the opportunity for fire outbreak.
b. Ship design to restrict the spread of an outbreak.
c. Providing proper equiptmen to fight fire.
d. Ensuring that the entire crew are well brified and trained to tackle any fire
outbreak effectively.
LESSON 2 : HEARING CONCERSATION
DATE :

when carrying out the cbt in the long wetar with a duration of 2
hours we listen to the explanation using a hendset and in the
conversation I can quite understand what is being explained even
though there is still some difficulty in understanding the
pronunciation with the writing.
and in the conversation explained about the sonar navigation system
which is a navigation system that uses acoustic energy, there are two
instruments known as the echo sounder used to measure water
depth and the Doppler log is used to measure ship speed.
Laporan ini saya buat dengan sebenar-benarnya sesuai dengan CBT
yang telah di laksanakan dan digunakan sebagaimana perlunya.
