Scope and Purpose

This document provides software release information on supported functionality, compatibility, and known
customer affecting issues, relating to the released software versions.
The intended users of this document are:
 Aviat Networks Customers
 Aviat Networks Product Support staff
 Aviat Networks Field Service staff

The primary purpose of this Limited Availability (LA) is the introduction of new Carrier Ethernet functionality
for the DAC GE3 and IDU GE3, Payload Encryption operation in conjunction with ACM and XPIC, new
RAC 60E/6XE modem profiles and support for ODU 600 releases from 26 to 42GHz.
The GA 07.00.41 software release will continue to be the default software loaded in the factory.

New features in 07.01.83

 DAC GE3 and IDU GE3 Protocols and Carrier Ethernet Features:
 ERP (G.8032) Ethernet Ring Protection including multi-ring support
 RSTP (802.1w) Rapid Spanning Tree Protocol
 LACP (802.1AX) Link Aggregation Control Protocol
 Ethernet OAM (802.1ag/Y.1731)
 DAC GE3 Layer 1 Link Aggregation (L1LA) complete with Adaptive Modulation (ACM) support
 DAC GE3 and IDU GE3 in-band NMS support
 DAC GE3 SDH backplane support
 DAC GE3 2nd Tributary Sync Channel – Up to two valid sync multi-cast circuits can be connected
 RAC 60/6X/60E/6XE Payload Encryption with ACM & XPIC support (see profile list below)
 New RAC 60/6X/60E/6XE profiles including ANSI 25 MHz, 3.75 MHz and 3.5MHz support
 ODU 600 Modem Profile support for the new 26-42 GHz frequency bands
 Field issue resolutions (as noted)
 Support for the latest IDU GE3 16x version (EXG-601-002) that resolves issue 8325/ES-20478 with
dropped 013F frames.

Important Considerations Before Upgrading Software

In this release there are several software upgrade and compatibility considerations that should be noted
and procedures followed to ensure a reliable upgrade with minimum traffic interruption as follows.
Portal : A PC with a pre 5.3 version of Portal will not be able to communicate with a radio
that has been configured for secure management (Basic or Strong), until it has acquired
ES-14902 a 5.3 version of Portal.
The easiest way to update to a 5.3 version of Portal is to connect your Portal PC to an
Eclipse radio running version 5.3, with its security setting configured to "none".
Portal: This note applies to customers who run software version 5.1 or earlier with basic
security enabled (requiring a user name and password to login in Portal) and who
decided to upgrade to software version 5.4 or later. The customer shall be aware that
passwords for "operator", "engineer", and "admin" users will be reset to default values
(port_op, port_eng, port-adm correspondingly) after the upgrade. In some cases security
mode will be also turned to "Off".
ES-16214 This happens starting version 5.4 the way how Eclipse stores password has been
changed to meet more strict FIPS 140-2 security requirements.
Customer shall reconfigure security mode and passwords to desired values after the
upgrade.
This is one time action. Further upgrades to subsequent software releases will not reset
passwords.
ES-16346 Portal: Software 5.4 and later changed RADIUS server value for "View" permission. It is

important that customers upgrading from 5.3 to 5.4 update their RADIUS server user
accounts. Failure to update RADIUS server accounts will result in Eclipse denying PCR
data download for users, who have only "View" permission.

Scheduling Software Upgrades

Software updates should be activated during a maintenance window when a traffic outage can be
managed.
 Traffic may be affected when upgrading software between two specific versions of software.
Modules that have updated FPGA software will suffer a momentary loss of traffic. The use of
Provision feature 'Scheduled Activation' to preload software, and schedule upgrades at low traffic
times of the day will help minimize disruption. Contact an Aviat Networks Technical Help Desk for
details, contact details are on page 2 of these release notes.

 When upgrading software ensure the remote end of a link is upgraded before the local end.

Known Issues
The following table lists known issues that have not been fixed in this release.

Ref # Issue Description

RAC 60/6X: In a space diversity system occasionally there is a minor traffic hit ( 1mS)
when the offline card is removed and then reinserted. Note that this issue is only
ES-12970 resolved by a hardware modification on the RAC 60E (EXR-600-002) rev 3 or later and
RAC 6XE (EXR-660-002) rev 4 or later.
IRU 600 : No Power Supply Input Failure alarm on the IRU 600 high power RFU.
Removing the power supply brings up a TX Power Failure alarm, when the correct
ES-13267 description should be a input power failure, this may result in an incorrect diagnosis of
the real problem. If a TX Power Failure alarm is present, first check the RFU power
supply voltage. This issue will be resolved in the next SW release.
RAC 60/6X: A traffic hit may occur on 1+1 protected links when an Off-Line RAC is re-
inserted.
ES-13994 The hit (errors/sync loss burst) affects all traffic (DPP, backplane). Occurrence is
intermittent. . Note that this issue is only resolved by a hardware modification on the
RAC 60E (EXR-600-002) rev 3 or later and RAC 6XE (EXR-660-002) rev 4 or later.
RAC 60/6X: IRU600 30MHz/128QAM/OC3 : Protection switching times may exceed
200mS approximately 2% of switching occurrences. This is caused by the specific timing
ES-14546 of an RFU Alarm during switch cycles. Note that the total average switching time is
25ms.
ODU 300 SP: Tx Fail alarm comes up and RAC front panel LEDs go red when placed in
ES-15029 IF Loopback with SP ODUs EQS-XX-XXXX-XXX identified by the serial number starting
BLBxxxxxxxx . Alarm only seen during IF Loopback.
RAC 60/6X: ANSI ACM - User can enter ACM ATPC settings that will inhibit ACM from
stepping up to the maximum modulation. If the max TX power setting specified is higher
than the max TX power allowed at 256QAM, and the "Target Remote Fade Margin" is
greater than 10db, then a significantly greater RSL will be required before the modulation
ES-16183 will step up. Although the SNR is high enough to step-up, the system tries to maintain
the requested target fade margin at the expense of stepping up the modulation. The
consequence is that the link to never reach 256QAM. Solution is to configure the ATPC
settings for maximum Tx power at 256QAM and not the lower modulations.
IDU GE3 16x: Protection - Tx and Rx, Ethernet and TDM switch on ODU Cable removal
ES-17790 can exceed 50ms (Average 90ms, Max 150ms)
RAC 60/6X: 1+1 ACM mode: In a 1+1 ACM setup, if the RX Online is separately faded to
DNL and the Offline Demod remains locked (using the Offline diversity data), removing
the Offline diversity RX Source (by ODU cable removal or RAC removal) does not result
ES-17933 in the Online RX stepping its modulation down so that it locks up. Therefore, traffic is lost
until the Online RX unfades enough to lock up at its current RX modulation, or the
connection to the Offline radio is restored.
RAC 60/6X: Protection, Offline RAC removal is not errorless with several capacities.
TDM traffic is hit when removing the off-line RAC with the following ETSI profiles
ES13994 : 7MHz,13.75MHz and 27.5MHz. Note that this issue is only resolved by a hardware
modification on the RAC 60E (EXR-600-002) rev 3 or later and RAC 6XE (EXR-660-
002) rev 4 or later.
IDU GE3 16x protected : When protection switches are performed the radio can get into
a situation with demod going in/out of lock (ANSI 40MHz max throughput profiles only,
ES-20143 especially 256 QAM). It is recommended that the 40MHz Max Throughput profile is not
used in a protected ACM configuration. The Max system gain profiles should be used
instead.
IDU GE3 profiles : Some will occasionally show a brief RX DNL or error burst at the
ES-20191
local RX if the local TX is unmuted when using the Tx Mute Diagnostic command. Seen

on 56MHz ACM: 256Q-MG, 256Q-MT profiles, but may affect others.
IRU 600v2: Using "Rollback Software" from 07.00.40 to 06.02.07 causes a Modulator
not lock alarm on one of the protected RFU's
ES-20300 The workaround for this issue is to check the "Mute Offline RFU Tx Power" check box
and send in Portal. The radio will reconfigure itself and the alarm should clear. The
"Mute Offline RFU Tx Power" box can then be unchecked and sent.
DAC GE3 : L1LA - Excessive outage when switching between primary and secondary
GE3 cards. Typical times are :
When manually switching between cards the times can be > 300ms

When removing the online card >500ms
When inserting the primary card the times are >1 Second
Inserting the secondary card does not have this issue, time <2ms

ODU600: During severe RSL fading sync loss may be seen at the 1E-06 RBER
threshold level when using the ETSI 40MHz 256QAM XPIC profiles running in Static
Modulation. This will not be seen when running in ACM mode as ACM switching will be
ES-21738
triggered. This issue is only expected to be experienced under LAB testing conditions as
severe fading of this magnitude will normally cause the link to drop unless ACM is
enabled.
DAC GE3: OAM is missing ME "Name String" after configuration RestoreThe
Maintenance Endpoint (ME) Name text field is empty after a configuration Restore on
ES-21782
terminals configured for OAM.
OAM: One of the labels in the pulldown menu for Sender ID Permission fields is
ES-21783 incorrect. One of the entries in the Portal drop down selection for the Sender Id
permissions is incorrect. The entry 'explicit' should be 'Management address'
GE3 : Port will not carry traffic until reset. Shows excessive out frame drop -
Occasionally after a power cycle, Port 4 of the primary DAC GE3 in a protected setup
ES-21823
does not carry traffic. Resetting the port from the Portal diagnostics screen restores
traffic.
GE3: RSTP that includes L1LA does not carry traffic when L1LA goes down - An RSTP
setup that includes a L1LA trunk as one of the paths, does not carry traffic on other
ES-21828
available links when the entire L1LA path goes down. Do not use RSTP and L1LA
functions together on the DAC GE3 in this release.

ES-21829
GE3: Static LAG including L1LA path does not pass traffic - Traffic does not pass on
static LAG configurations that include an L1LA path. The workaround is to not configure
static LAG if L1LA is used.
GE3: Enabling Flow Control on protected/stacked DAC GE3 cards with L1LA operational
results in lots of dropped frames. Flow control does not work in combination with L1LA
ES-21832
and protected DAC GE3 cards. The workaround is to disable flow control in these
configurations.
Protected IDU GE3: Packet loss one way when DAC GE3/IDU GE3's are configured in
LACP/LAG and RSTP - LACP and LAG configurations do not work in combination with
ES-21835
RSTP if LACP/LAG is configured on one end only and results in lost traffic. Enabling
LACP/LAG on both ends restores error free traffic.
ERP: Unable to issue Manual/Force Switch command over L1LA port - In ERP
ES-21853 configurations, the Manual/Force Switch command which causes the designated port to
be blocked, has no effect when applied to L1LA ports.

Other Important Notes:

 Care should be taken not to run OSPF and Static routing within the same internal OSPF routing
domain.

 If Portal loses communication with an IDU 300 SP radio when changing the IP address, restart Portal
to restore communication.

 Disable any PC firewalls before performing a software download.

 Eclipse Portal Software version 5.0 includes an upgrade to Java version 6.0. This later version of
Java provides improved memory management and operational performance. It provides a fix for
occasional low memory issues that have been reported on heavily loaded systems. It is
recommended that users install Eclipse Portal 5.0 or later from the Eclipse SW Setup CD or from the
Aviat Networks Customer Online Support site at www.support.aviatnetworks.com.
The note below, seen on Portal screens, relates to this issue.
