MGN581:MANAGEMENT AND ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR DYNAMICS

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

• enumerate the concept of management practices and organizational behaviour

• develop and sharpen acumen of how different management thoughts can be used to
improve organization functioning
• analyze the importance of management practices and important organizational behaviour
dimensions at different levels of organization

• evaluate different managerial and behavioral issues in different functional areas integrate
skills to align individual and organizational goals

• apply relevant contemporary theories, concepts and models in order to analyze


organizational environment and issues

Unit I
Concept, Nature and Evolution of Management Thought : skills and roles of a manager,
classical, neo-classical and modern management thoughts, challenges of managing 21st-century
corporations/organization
Unit II
Managerial Functions : planning process and types of plans, types of organizational structure,
relationship between authority and responsibility, decision-making process and its significance,
staffing, directing and coordinating, controlling process and techniques
Unit III
Organizational Behaviour : relationship between management and organizational behavior, model
of OB and contributing disciplines to the OB field
Foundations of Individual Behaviour : values, attitude and job satisfaction, theories of learning
and behaviour modification, theories of personality and its assessment, transactional analysis and
attribution theory of perception, emotional intelligence and affective events theory of emotion, early
and contemporary theories of motivation
Unit IV
Group Dynamics and Team Development : group dynamics and its significance, types of groups,
formation and stages of group development, group performance factors, team formation, its types
and difference between group and team
Unit V
Organizational Conflict and Negotiations : conflict sources, types and levels of conflict, traditional
and modern approaches to conflict, resolution of conflict through negotiation
Unit VI
Organizational Development : creating and sustaining organizational culture, change model and
resistance to change, stress, its sources and consequences and stress management techniques,
contemporary issues in management and organizational behaviour with special emphasis on
workforce diversity and gender sensitization
