Topic: ACE's in the Black Community Your Name:  Joshua Kent

1.What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I didn't know that diabetes was something that could be caused by ACE scores.
◦ I was unaware of the diabetes epidemic in the south or that pre-diabetes was a
thing I thought you either had it or you didn't.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ With anything regarding race there is always a connection to the field of
education. Education is a field that unfortunately has a long history of
discrimination even in the modern day and though it is shameful it is
something that more and more people are becoming aware of, hopefuly that
will make a difference.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ My main question is what the presenter feels like could help the issue, yes
being reactive and proactive members in the community can help but what can
people outside of the community do to help?

Topic: ACE's and Alzheimers Your Name:  Joshua Kent

2.What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I learned what the actual symptoms of Alzheimers are and learned more on the
causes.
◦ I learned that there are racial disparities in the onset of dementia and
alzheimers

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ I don't quite see any connections due to the fact that I am going into education and most
high-schoolers don't have dementia or Alzheimer.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ My main question is with the onset of scientists finding out that Alzheimer's
disease is a type of diabetes that can be resolved by a regulation of insulin and
the possibility of them changing its name to type 3 diabetes what does that
mean in the link to diabetes and ACE's.

Topic: ACE's and Alcoholism Your Name:  Joshua Kent

3.What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I honestly didn't learn anything new. I went through a lot in my first 3 years of military
service which led to alcoholism and 2 years of in patient and out patient therapy.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ The affects of alcoholism on the children of alcoholics are things that an
educator needs to be able to recognize. I would say that is a big connection.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ My only question is why did you choose alcoholism for your presentation?

Topic: ACE's and Depression/Anxiety Your Name:  Joshua Kent

4.What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I learned exactly what anxiety causes, and I am glad I did considering no one
really lays it out like that.
◦ I learned how serious depression was among students. It is the same with
anxiety, I didn't think it would be that high especially at young ages.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ When students are affected of course it relates to education and the fact that so
many people suffer from these disorders just shows how neglected it is in my
field of study.

Topic: ACE's and Early Parental Loss Your Name:  Joshua Kent

1. What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I learned about the two theories behind the correlation of early parental loss
and aces.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ There will always be at least one child that has lost one of their parents if I
actually do end up becoming a teacher. If I can try to help and be a support for
the kids that I teach by using the knowledge I have gained then I have
completed the goal I set out for myself.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ I want to know more about what I could do to be there for the kids that need
me and have gone through this.

Topic: ACE's Your Name:  Joshua Kent

5.What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I learned the three common types of headache, Migraine, Stress, and
Hypertension.
◦ I also learned that headaches are very much related to trauma and ACE scores.
Though I have post-traumatic migraines I didn't quite understand why or what
that really meant.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ Headaches are frequent in high school and the fact that most teachers say just
take an ibuprofen is sad because it doesn't really help.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ Why does trauma affect headaches and how can they be dealt with without
turning to ibuprofen.

Topic: ACE's in Criminal Justice Your Name:  Joshua Kent

1. What were 2 things you learned from this presentation?

◦ I learned that abandonment occurs whether or not someone is actually
abandoned when they are separated from society.
◦ I learned that what prisoners suffer from is similar to PTSD if it isn't the same
thing as their childhood traumas come back and haunt them while they are
taken from society.

2.Do you see any connections to your field of study?

◦ I don't see a way that this relates to my career but the knowledge might one
day. It does relate to my life however as my adopted brother was in juvy for a
year and a half and about two years after he got out her was sent to prison and
has been there for five years so far. He had a very rough childhood before we
took him in.

3.What questions do you have following this presentation?

◦ My question is what policies should be put in place to resolve this issue in your
opinion?
