Weekly Journal

Regular evaluation updates are required with every unit. Please remember to
take photos and get behind the scenes footage as you film. You might find it
easier if you note down a record of what you did each day in a diary form.

Please use the following guidance to help you with each week.

Week 1 This week you researched stop motion animation

What research have you I have watched many tutorials and short videos of
completed this week and what Lego stop motion, so it means that I have a rough
have you learned? idea of what to do and how to do certain things such
as walking, opening and closing doors etc.
What materials did you consider I have considered many materials while coming up
using and why? with an idea that works with my topic, these are some
that I considered:
 Clay ( modelling )
 Pen and Paper ( Drawing )
 Lego
These are some that I came up with, but I’m going to
focus on mainly creating things out of Lego.
How did the test animations help Well I already knew how I wanted my animation to
you to choose the most suitable look, but the test animations help me define which
material for your animation? things I needed to look better and which things I
needed to work on. For example, my lighting needs
(provide screenshots that show
some work as sometimes it can change without me
your practice methods) even noticing. Which can become problematic when
I come to edit my stop motion.
What did you learn from your By watching the tutorials it has meant that I have
planning? How has it helped you learnt ways to move my Lego figures, they have also
to progress your idea? helped me by giving me tips that I wouldn’t have
known If I didn’t watch them.
Are you on track for this week? If I am on track I just need to finish a couple of things
not, how far behind are you? before I go out and film my Animation
What work do you need to The only thing I need to complete is my Storyboards
complete outside of lessons to which I have started but not yet finished.
stay on track?

Week 2 This week you produced your stop motion animation

How helpful did you find your I found my planning very helpful due to knowing
planning whilst photographing exactly what I was going to shoot and how I was
your animation? going to do it, I also watched many tutorials which
was also helpful as they gave me tips on the best way
to shoot your stop motion Animation .
What challenges did you face I faced many challenges whilst doing my stop motion
with your chosen material? How for example, maybe not having as much Lego as I
did you overcome these? wanted, to build my set. Having to work with a torch
instead of a desk lamp which may have worked
better in some scenes, though the lighting was ok
apart from being quite harsh on the characters. I also
placed my camera on the desk to get close to the
Lego figures which then became a problem when
reaching over the top to change the characters
movement, the camera would then slightly move
which you can see in my Stop Motion. I tried to fix this
by sticking my camera to the desk using blue tack!
How did you ensure you met the I used pieces of paper that I wrote the number of
required frame rate? frames on and crossed through the number when I
had taken a picture. A problem that occurred with
this was that when It came to a bit that I wanted to
change I often had to go back and re-cross some of
the numbers that I put a line through.
How happy are you with your final I think I did quite well with this section of the unit I
product? Provide analysis of the provided a fairly smooth stop motion that made sense
successes and failures you feel and look good. I am also overjoyed to actually finish
and produce this piece of work as It is an extremely
you had
long process of work. Sometimes when I keep
watching my Stop Motion back I notice little things
that I could have done better for example some of
the props moved that weren’t supposed to.
How much work did you I completed lots of work for example my whole Stop
complete outside of the lessons? Motion and also my storyboards from last week that I
had one-two boxes to fill in.
Are you on track for this week? If I am on Track this week.
not, how far behind are you?
What work do you need to N/A
complete outside of lessons to
stay on track?
