About the artist

John Murphy studied classical guitar, music theory,and solfeo (sight singing) at the Conservatorio Superior
de Musica, Valencia, Spain, where he obtained his degree in 1978, specialising in classical guitar. His
teachers included Dylan Todd (Ireland), Jose Luis Rodrigo (Madrid), and Dona Rosa J. Bosque (Valencia).
In Boston he studied jazz guitar with Berklee graduate John Wheatley. He has taught guitar in Ireland, Spain
and America. He has also given solo guitar recitals.

John has arranged numerous classical and popular tunes for guitar and recorded a selection of his
arrangements of Irish airs for Bord Failte. You can download some of John's arrangements free of
charge. He is also a singer-songwriter, having composed over 50 songs and released two CDs 'In A Quiet
Land' and 'A Kings Ransom -Songs For A Solo Guitarist'.
John is a member of IMRO.
John also holds a B.A. degree in Applied Languages (D.C.U.) in Span... (more online)
