INTRODUCTION

A pleasant afternoon everyone especially to our dear panelists! Millions of people all over the
world witness evolution in their daily life. The advent of modernization has made the use of
gadgets as an everyday necessity for everybody. No one can deny the effect of technology on the
different aspects of people’s lives such as in education that has undergone different changes.
This has also given rise to the increase in the number of students related to the social media
usage as an educational tool. For that reason, the researchers have come up with a study entitled
“Senior High School Students’ Frequency of Usage and Levels of Perception on Social Media as
an Educational Tool.”
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
The study sought to answer the following questions:
1. What is the profile of the senior high school students in terms of;
a. Sex;
b. Strand; and
c. Grade Level?
2. What is the frequency of usage and level of perception of the senior high school students on
social media as an educational tool?
3. Is there a significant difference in the respondent’s frequency of usage and level of perception on
social media as an educational tool when grouped by the profile variables?

STATEMENT OF THE NULL HYPOTHESIS

There is no significant difference in the respondent’s frequency of usage and level of perception
on social media as an educational tool when grouped by the profile variables.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study is beneficial to the following… It is important for the senior high school students to
learn to assess the social media as a means of educational tool reflectively. The school may also
develop the classroom environment into a more engaging, relevant, and culturally diverse
environment and that the school may serve as an avenue where the students and teachers can
share information with each other through the use of social media. Additionally, the people can
be more cultivated and aware of the events happening around them by taking advantage of the
information dissemination tools. Finally, this study may motivate future researchers to carry on
conducting studies relevant to social media as an educational tool.

CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
Figure 1 presents the Research Paradigm of the study. Phase 1 describes the frequency of usage
and levels of perception of the respondents about social media as an educational tool. Phase 2
shows the relations among the profile variables presumed to affect or influence the perception of
the respondents. In this study, the presumed profile variables are sex, strand, and grade level.
Phase 3 determines some manifestations of the senior high school students as regards their levels
of perception. These perceptions towards the social media as an educational tool will then be
assessed or validated using the survey questionnaire.

METHODOLOGY- RESEARCH DESIGN, RESEARCH LOCALE, RESPONDENTS

The study utilized a quantitative research approach using a survey questionnaire. The
respondents of the study are senior high school students of St. Joseph School. The respondents
were determined through a stratified random sampling since there will be only fifty six (56)
respondents from a total of five hundred five (505) senior high school students enrolled from the
different strands.

RESULTS
Moving on to the results of the study… Table 1 shows the respondents’ profile in terms of sex,
strand, and grade level. In terms of the distribution by sex and grade level, the number of the
respondents is equal in both groups. However, in terms of the distribution by strand, STEM has
the most number of respondents followed by HUMSS and then ABM.

Table 2 shows the respondents’ perception on social media as an educational tool. All of the
items were rated high by the senior high school students. In the survey, item 8 “Students and
teachers can share information with one another.” gained the highest mean of 4.29. This could
mean that they can communicate and exchange information by means of using social media
especially for educational purposes. Overall, the respondents rated themselves high with a mean
of 4.01, described as high.

Table 3 presents the respondents’ frequency of usage of social media. Facebook and Youtube
were rated very high by the senior high school students with a mean of 4.78 and 4.66.
Additionally, Instagram and Twitter were rated high with a mean of 3.88 and 3.63. Snapchat and
Blogs were rated moderate followed by Pinterest with a low rating and then Tumblr and Flickr
with a very low rating. The results were tallied and showed an overall mean of 2.92, described as
moderate.

Table 4 shows the group statistics and test of difference in the respondent’s frequency of usage
and perception level when grouped by sex. Both male and female respondents rated themselves
high in the level of perception and moderate in the frequency of usage. The independent
samples’ t- test yielded no significant difference between the two groups in both categories. All
the computed p values were greater than .05.

Table 5 presents the group statistics and test of difference in the respondent’s frequency of usage
and perception level when grouped by strand. All of the strands rated themselves high in the
level of perception and moderate in the frequency of usage. The One Way- ANOVA test yielded
no significant difference among the three strands in both categories. The results showed a greater
value than .05.

Finally, Table 6 shows the group statistics and test of difference in the respondent’s frequency of
usage and perception level when grouped by grade level. Both grade 11 and 12 students rated
themselves high in the level of perception and moderate in the frequency of usage. The
independent samples’ t- test yielded no significant difference between the two groups. All the
computed p values were greater than .05.

CONCLUSION
Based on the summary of findings, the following conclusions were derived… The senior high
school students are engaged moderately in the usage of social media and highly perceived social
media as an educational tool. Furthermore, the frequency of usage and perception levels of the
respondents do not vary regardless of sex, strand, and grade level. Thus, in all of the cases, the
null hypothesis of no significant difference is accepted.

RECOMMENDATION
As for the recommendation, the respondents should enhance their responsible usage of social
media especially for educational purposes. Likewise, studies related on the subject matter should
be conducted with the inclusion of other variables not mentioned in the study to widen one’s
understanding of the issue.

That concludes our presentation. We are now open for questions and clarifications.
