Goal Essay
“Why would you want to look in someone’s mouth all day?” This is the most common
reaction I get when talking about my career choice to become a dental hygienist. While it may
not sound fun to look in someone’s mouth, it goes beyond that from my perspective. I am
excited to help educate others in getting and maintaining a healthy smile. Proper care and dental
hygiene not only makes you look better, it makes you feel better. Afterall, a healthy smile is a
happy smile! I am ready to begin this journey knowing that I must remember a few important
goals that will help me along the way. In order to reach my goal of being a dental hygienist, I
must remain dedicated to school and this field of study, manage my time effectively, and
require me to put some of my extra curricular activities on hold now and then, I know it will pay
off in the end. My motivation will be driven by my desire to complete my education so that I

taking care of our physical and mental wellness is a big part of our success. Sleep deprivation is

cannot afford to go without. Again, organization plays a role here too. Getting an adequate
amount of sleep is just as important as eating healthy. One affects the other and they both can be
a hindrance to the goals I have set for myself. In addition, regular exercise helps clear the mind
and aids with sleep as well. This would be another healthy habit to keep recharged and focused
When thinking about and applying these routines and helpful goals to daily life, reaching
my goal of becoming a dental hygienist sounds unstoppable. When I get to where I want to be in
life, having completed my education, I will help make a difference in people’s lives and give
