CASE APPLICATION 1-MORE THAN A GOOD STORY

1. As the Top-Managers of their company, what types of issues might Bert and John have
to deal with? Be as specific as possible. Which management functions might be most
important to them? Why?

Answer 1.

As the top managers of their company, their issues may vary from time to time or may
arise or influenced by many factors,however,few of the issues which they might face is
could be:

Bert and John must deal with. New issues arise on a daily basis when managing any
organization. However, I believe that Bert and John have already encountered and dealt
with the issues that were a threat to the company’s success. Such issues may have
included; the business outgrowing its staff, developing a system which best fit the
company’s needs, and also implementing a system the company will not outgrow.
Sustainability could be another issue. Now that they already have customers, it is
important to keep their trust by providing goods with high quality and of course, remain
consistent, about that.Customer will also demand innovation, so it is important too t
encourage their employees to be aware of an act on opportunities of innovation. But
mostly, the first thing they must do to sustain company is by integrating economic,
environmental and social opportunities into business strategies.

Functions;

PLANNING: This function is important for them to define their goals, establishing
strategies to achieve their goals and develop plans to integrate and co ordinate
activities.

Organizing: they need this function to structure and arrange work,assigningthe


right task to the right person and where decisions are required.

Leading:This involves motivating the staff,leading them and dealings with people.Hiring
staff and training them.

Controlling: They should overlook ether things are going as planned, evaluation of
performances,compairing the work with plan and correcting if there is any error.

2. Using descriptions from the case, describe Bert and Jhon’s managerial style. Would this
approach work for other organizations?
Answer 2.

Their managerial style is to manage people who are brave enough to take action,and
simply believe in the good side of life.

3.How do you think the company’s motto “Do what you like, Like what you do” might affect
how managers manage? Be specific.

ANSWER 3.

The motto will definitely affect how managers manage by using their human skills.the MOTTO
can be used to motivate interpersonnel roles their employees.The spirit within the motto can
work as catalyst to encourage them to rise.

4. What managerial challenges might there be in having friends work for your business?
How could these challenges be kept inconsequential?

ANSWER 4.

The challenges that may occurs is that when personal relationship intrude. So to keep this
challenge inconsequential, it is must to set a certain rules and remain professional, by not
interfuse between private life and business.

5. Would you want to work for a company like this? Why or why not?

ANSWER 5.

Yes, because their business strategy suits me.Their business environmental is relatively stable
and friendly too. Through their managerial style we can see that they are allowing their
employees to participate in the company.
6. In what ways would the Life is Good managers (corporate and retail stores) have to deal
with the challenges of customer services, innovation and sustainability? Be specific in
your description.

The challenges that may appear:

 To maintain customer trust by providing high quality products.
