X. Rationale of the Project

Reading is the complex cognitive process of decoding symbols to derive meaning. It is a
form of language processing. Success in this process is measured as reading comprehension.
It is a means for language acquisition, communication, and sharing information and ideas.

Based from the presented text, the organization realized that reading is important
because it’s undeniable that a child’s reading skills are important to their success in school,
work, and life in general. And it is very possible to help ensure the child’s success by reading
to them starting at a very early age. Because of that, the HRM 1102 create a proposal project
entitled “A-BA-KA-BA-TA” that will help the Grade 1 students in Malvar Central School to
make a big difference to their educational performance and it also helps to develop their
vocabulary and better understanding of the students. The project will also provide the
Abakada Booklet and printable reading materials from the internet, so that they can reread it
at their home to improve their reading skills in Filipino and English.

The reason of creating this project proposal is the philosophy of the proponents to
promote free tutorial to help struggling first grade students read at their appropriate grade
level. We believed that child's reading skills are important to their success in school as they
will allow them to access the breadth of the curriculum and improve their communication and
language skills. In addition, reading can be a fun and imaginative time for first grade
students, which opens doors to all kinds of new worlds for them. Reading opens the door to
the student’s early academic success, imparts a love of learning and leads to higher grades in
every subject. Numerous studies have shown that strong oral language skills are the basis for
literacy development. Reading promotes greater maturity, increases discipline and lays the
basis for moral literacy. It sparks curiosity about people, places and things and also satisfies
the child's curiosity by providing explanations of how things work. It exposes the child to a
range of problem-solving techniques. Thus, we build this team and this project to provide free
tutorial to help students on how to read basic Filipino and English word by word.
As the project title suggests, our goal is to help many children that have problems
learning to read. Reading is important because it develops the mind, it helps them to
understand the written word. The instructors will provide advance learning in reading Filipino
and English for the students. In line with this, the proponents are giving the assurance that
this project will lead to chances of positive outcomes for the beneficiaries.
