Structural Calculation Report

For
LV Panel Support

1. Executive Summary
This document intends to provide information on the structural design of LV Panel supporting
system. The support is designed to resist the worst load case that can be generated due to the LV
panel.

The structural system is analysis via a 3D model analysis using Staad Pro Software where all the
applied loads are analysed consequently design of all structural members

As per result of the analysis and design the structural elements shown on the drawing are
structurally adequate.

The structure is more or less described in the figure below.

2. Structural Design Criteria

2.1. Code of Standards
a) BS5950 2000
b) Qatar Construction Standards (QCS 2014)
2.2. Applied Loadings
a) Dead Load (DL)
 Self-weight of Structures as incorporated in the structural model is auto
calculated by the software.
c) Super Imposed Dead Load (SIDL)
Considerations:
 Spacing of supporting beams : 0.3m
 Given Load : 8.25KN/m2
 Factor of safety : >1.5

2.3 Load calculations

UDL Corresponds to the

given area load : 8.25*0.3=2.475 KN/m

FOS : 1.5

Applied load/UDL : 2.475*1.5=3.72 KN/m

2.4. Material Properties
Steel Grade : SJR275

Beam Section : UPN100

2.5. Durability
All steel elements shall be painted with anti-corrosion paint to withstand the extreme
climate in Qatar

2.6. Calculation Methodology

Static analysis procedure was employed in the stress calculations via a 3D analysis
model using STAAD Pro software where all the applicable loads and material
specification are applied on the system.

3. Structural Analysis
3.1 Section J
In this case, all the beams are having the same span and section. Therefore we are
considering the analysis report of a single beam, which will be applicable to all the
beams.

Effective span : 1.62m (1.5+0.12)

3.1.3 Displacement Diagram

The calculated maximum Vertical Displacement is 0.808mm < Span/360 = 1620/360 =
4.5mm. Therefore OK.

3.14 Bending moment diagram

3.15 Steel Capacity Ratio Diagram

The steel maximum utilization ratio is 0.123 which is less than 1.0 therefore all members are
structurally adequate.

The Factor of Safety is 1/0.123 = 8.13> 1.5, hence OK.

3.2 Section B&C
The section B & C are having same span of 1.2m each. Therefore only one analysis model is
created for both the sections.
Effective span : 1.32m (1.2+0.12)

3.2.3 Displacement Diagram

The calculated maximum Vertical Displacement is 0.356mm < Span/360 = 1320/360 = 3.67mm.
Therefore OK.

3.2.4 Bending moment diagram

3.2.5 Steel Capacity Ratio Diagram

The steel maximum utilization ratio is 0.0754 which is less than 1.0 therefore all members are
structurally adequate.

The Factor of Safety is 1/0.0754 = 13.26> 1.5, hence OK.

3.3 Section K
The section K is having spans of 1m & 1.02m. Here we are considering the longest span,
that is 1.02m.
Effective span : 1.14m (1.02+0.12)

The calculated maximum Vertical Displacement is 0.356mm < Span/360 = 1320/360 = 3.67mm.
Therefore OK.

3.3.5 Steel Capacity Ratio Diagram

The steel maximum utilization ratio is 0.0535 which is less than 1.0 therefore all members are
structurally adequate.

The Factor of Safety is 1/0.0535 = 18.7> 1.5, hence OK.
