GIP Success Story of Miss Mary Joy Sajulga

In my college years, just like any other students who are looking forward for a
stable job once they graduate, I have been very ambitious and eager to immediately
work and earn after I earn my degree. However, that was not the case when I graduates
because I was confronted with the reality that looking for a job is not as easy as I
thought it was. I realized the sad reality that my ideal institutions have preferred to hire
other applicants instead of me and that gave me some feelings of disappointment and
frustration. But I didn’t give up, I persistently looked for opportunities in which I would be
able to showcase my capabilities and prove myself, and at the same time, be able to
earn and help my family in terms of economic stability.

I was fortunate enough to have been able to discover the Government Internship
Program of the Government through the Department of Labour and Employment and
the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) of the Local Government Unit of Lanuza.
I was very happy when I knew that I was one of the selected interns for the program
because I felt like I already got the opportunity that I have been longing to have. In my
internship, I was assigned in the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO) of
LGU-Lanuza and was in-charge of the encoding and preparing of some the reports and
documents of the office since they considered that I am a graduate of Bachelor of
Science in Information Technology of STI College-Surigao City. During the entire
duration of the program, I was able to not just show my skills and capabilities, but also, I
was able to learn and appreciate the dynamics of a government office and the beauty of
serving the people through faithfully performing my tasks in the office.

During the end of the internship program, I was quite sad because I thought that
it could be the end of my service, but I was so happy when I got a call from the Human
Resource Management Office of LGU-Lanuza and they told me to submit my pertinent
papers because the LGU-Lanuza intended to absorb me as a Job Order Employee to
be assigned in the Municipal Planning and Development Office, in my previous
assignment. Without any second thoughts, I immediately took the offer and submitted
my papers because I believe that it is a good platform for me to showcase and develop
my skills and I am forever grateful to the Government Internship Program of the
Department of Labour and Employment and the Local Government Unit of Lanuza for
the opportunity that they have entrusted to me. Until now, I am still part of the Local
Government Unit of Lanuza and I am even more inspired to do my part in call of public
service.
