INCREASING STUDENTS’ SPEAKING ABILITY THROUGH COMMUNICATIVE

LANGUAGE GAMES AT SMPN 4 MANIAMOLO GRADE VIII IN THE ACADEMIC


YEAR OF 2019 / 2020

This study aims at increasing the speaking ability of the grade VIII students of SMPN 4
Maniamolo in the academic year of 2019 / 2020. Communicative language games used in this
study.
This study is an action research study which comprised two cycles. It involved me as the
writer, the principle of SMP N 4 Maniamolo, the English teacher, and 24 students of VIII A class
of SMPN 4 Maniamolo in the academic year of 2019 / 2020. The steps of this study are
reconnaissance, planning the actions, implementing and observing the actions, and reflecting the
actions done. The data of this study are qualitative and quantitative. The qualitative data are
obtained by observing the teaching and learning process during the implementation of the actions
and interviewing the students and the English teacher. The data are collected in the forms of field
notes and interview transcripts. The quantitative data are takes by assessing the students speaking
ability through the pre-test and the post-test which is in the form of scores. To get
trustworthiness, investigator, time, and theoretical triangulation were used. Democratic, process,
outcome, catalytic, dialogic validity was also employed to meet the validity and reliability of the
data.
The research finding shows that the use of the communicative language games is
effective to improve students’ speaking ability. The games are accompanied with other actions
such as using classroom English, applying varied themes, using adequate media, doing language
form activities, giving feedback, giving rewards, doing group works and rearranging the students
seating arrangement. The indicators of the success of the implementation are that: (1) the
students are more active in the speaking activities than they are; (2) the students are more
enthusiastic in doing speaking activities; and (3) the students’ self-confidence and motivation to
speak English improve. Furthermore, the findings are also supported by the means of the
students’ speaking score which have increased.
INCREASING THE STUDENTS’ ACHIEVEMENT IN READING NARRATIVE TEXT
BY USING KNOW-WANT-LEARNED STRATEGY AT GRADE EIGHT, AT SMP
NEGERI 4 MANIAMOLO IN ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2019/2020

This research aims at increasing the students’ achievement in reading narrative text by
using Know-Want-Learned strategy. The subject of this research is grade eight students at SMP
N 4 Maniamolo in 2019 academic year.
This research of this study is conducted by using classroom action research. The data
used in this research are the result the pre-test to know the improvement of students in reading
narrative text. It would be indicated that the scores and the mean in first cycle are better than the
pre-test. The percentage of students who will get point 75 or more there is also would show up.
In other words, the students’ achievement in reading narrative text improved and become well in
the first meeting to the next meeting. For the hyphothesis testing used t-test formula from the
compulation, it could be seen that coefficient of it could be seen that coefficient of tobserved >
ttable.
Thus, alternative hyphothesis (Ha) could be received. Based on finding, alternative
hyphothesis (Ha) saying that KWL 2trategy could improve students’ achievement in reading
narrative text.
IMPROVING STUDENT’S WRITING ON RECOUNT TEXT ON THE USE OF INSIDE
OUTSIDE CIRCLE TECHNIQUE OF THE EIGHT GRADE STUDENTS OF SMP
NEGERI 4 MANIAMOLO IN ACADEMC YEAR 2019/2020

This study is to see the improvement of student’s writing skill on recount text for eight
grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo by using Inside Outside Circle Technique. The
subject of this research is the students of Eight Grade of SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo which
consists of 25 students.
The method used in this study is Classroom Action Research (CAR) which the researcher
works collaboratively with the observer. This study is conducted following kemmis with the
following procedure of the research: Planning, Action, Observation and Reflection. The study
carried out in two cycles and each cycle consist of two meetings. The observation and the test are
the data gathered in this study.
The results in this study indicate that there is improvement of the students’ skill in
writing recount text. Most of the students gradually gained good score at the end of the cycle.
The score of Minimum Mastery Criteion – Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal (KKM) of English
lesson is 70.00 (seventy). The researcher analyzes the writing component containing content,
organization, vocabulary, languge use and mechanics. So there is improvement of writing skill of
the second grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Maniamolo after being taught by using Inside
Outside Circle Technique.
