How to connect to the SSAS


Connect to the TCU by plugging the LAN cable on LAN port.

There is a special push button switch (shown in the pictures below) Press the button to restart the
TCU . Then the TCU will have temporary IP address: 169.254.100.100 .

Set your laptop’s IP dress to be 169.254.100.101

Subnet Mask:255.255.0.0
Setting up Teraterm software
After rebooting then set up Teraterm like this to access the TCU

Setting up Teraterm
Choose TCP/IP and also select Telnet

Once connected “tt6194:/” will display on the Teraterm window

Type “minic” to connect to antenna. Once successful, can0:/ will appear


Choosing a SSAS password: (Write this in the SSAS manual for future use)

The system has a default password “sysadm”. You need to setup a new password (minimum 8
digits).

Type “su sysadm” and press ‘Enter’. It will then ask for a default password which is ‘sysadm’ press
enter and it will go to canO:/ $

Change the default password by typing ‘password sysadm’. It will ask you to enter a new
password (123456789) type the new password again and press enter.

Programming the Inmarsat C number


Type ‘se -u 421512812’ <Enter>
To confirm that the Inmarsat number is programmed type ‘se -u ‘ <Enter>
Enter SSAS email addresses.
The SSAS can store 3 email addresses under the memory 0 until 2
To program the emails you have to type the following command
‘se -am’<Space> the memory number 0 or 1 <Comma> 254 <comma> the email address and
<Enter>
Vetting.med@vships.com -> Memory 0
alert.isps@transport.gov.mt Memory 1

Choose which email addresses are alert + test


Inside the SSAS you can specify which email address is sent a test message or an alert message
vetting.med@vships.com [memory 0] gets setup as an alert + test
alert.isps@transport.gov.mt [memory 1] gets setup as alert only

Message types: 1=Alert, 2=Test, 3=Alert + test

To do this, type the following command:

‘se -ame’ <space>memory number<comma>message type (1,2,3)


e.g. se -ame 0,3 <enter>

See below for the specific address


For SSAS test purpose only following address:
vetting.med@vships.com se -ame 0,2 <enter>

For SSAS alert purpose need add also Malta flag address:
vetting.med@vships.com se -ame 0,3 <enter>

alert.isps@transport.gov.mt se -ame 1,1 <enter>

Choose the Land Earth Stations Operators routing .


For this step choose Xantic.
Enter the following: se -m<space>LESO Code<Enter>.

Then choose ALL Oceans

Set up custom message ( This message will be transmitted during a test and or Alert)

Check with Captain if this message should have a specific format as per V-Ship requirements

This is the message that will get sent by the SSAS. Put in the Vessel name, call sign and IMO
number and use the following command:
“Se -at”<space>” (text in inverted commas) Vessel name, call sign and IMO number ”<enter>.

To check if message has been programmed correctly then type: “se -at” and the programmed
message will appear
After this step. Put SSAS into normal mode by switching off and on again. Check test button, it
should illuminate green to indicate that the SSAS has now been successfully programmed.

To test SSAS:

Press green button. Press and hold red button for 35 seconds. The green button should blink. After
35 seconds, release red button, the green button will stop blinking meaning test complete. Now wait
for confirmation email.
