Figure 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 above show the gender and age of our respondents. From the charts, we can
see that majority of our respondent is from male at 62.5% and only 37.5% of the total respondents
are female. Three quarter of the total respondents are within 20 to 23 years of age. The rest are
aged 23 to 29.

From Figure 4.1.3, we can determine that 87.5% of our total respondent are taking their studies at
Degree level while 12.5% of them are in Diploma.

Figure 4.1.4 and 4.1.5 above shows the most often used social media platform and total hours spent
on social media in a week respectively. Figure 4.1.4 shows that Whatsapp is the most used social
media which is most often used by 34.3% of our respondents. This is followed by Youtube and
Instagram, Twitter, Facebook and Pornhub at 18.8%, 15.6%, 9.4%, and 3% respectively. Figure 4.1.5
shows that our respondents mostly used social media for 5 to 10 hours in total in a week.

Figure 4.2.1 shows what respondents mainly use social media for. The most respondents used social
media for is entertainment. 75% of the respondents agree that they social media for entertainment.
While only 56.3% of the respondents say that they use social media for educational purposes.

Figure 4.2.2 show the chart for what kind of information did the respondents seek for on social
media. 93.5% of respondents seek for entertainment and 87.1% for education. 45.2% of respondents
would search for sports while 32.2% of respondents prefer politics.

Figure 4.3.1 shows whether the respondents feel that social media has affected them negatively
mentally, academically, and with their relationship. 20 respondents disagree that social media
affected them mentally while 12 respondents agree. Academically, respondents are almost evenly
divided where 14 agreed that they have been negatively affected while 17 disagree. In relationship,
24 respondents disagree that social media affected them negatively while only 8 agreed.

Figure 4.3.2 shows the pie chart of respondents’ agreement on whether Social Media has impacted
their health. 31.3% of respondents agreed and 15.6% strongly agreed that it has impacted their
mental health. 9.4% of respondents disagree and 12.5% strongly disagreed. 31.3% decided to remain
neutral in their opinion.

Figure 4.3.3 show how the respondents think social media has affected them mentally. Half of the
respondent agreed that it has made them addicted to social media. While 46.4% says that they
experience low self-esteem. Another 32.1% says that they have anxiety as a result of using social
media.

Figure 4.3.4 shows whether respondents agree or not that social media in their relationship. 15.6%
of respondents strongly agree that this is the case and 50% simply agree. Only 9.4% say that they
disagree that social media has helped their relationship while 25% of respondents remain neutral.

Figure 4.3.5 shows the graph of in what way that social media has helped the respondents in their
relationship. The most relationship that the respondent feel that social media has helped them in is
with their family which stands at 65.6% of the respondents. The second most helped relationship is
related with their personal life at 59.4% followed by work related relationship at 31.3%. 18.8% of the
respondents feel that social media has not helped them.

Figure 4.3.6 shows the chart on whether respondents feel that the information they seek is helpful
in their study. Only 16.1% strongly agree and 25.8% simply agree. 9.7% of respondents disagree
while a large portion at 48.4% remain neutral.

Figure 4.3.7 shows how social media has affected the respondents’ study if applicable. 65.6% of
respondents agree that social media has enhanced their knowledge while 15.6% feel that social
media is a distraction.
On the open-ended question, most respondents answered with mixed feelings towards the effects
of social media. They most often mention that the use of social media is dependent on the individual
and the negative effect only applies to those who misused it.
