The Ember socks are worked from the cuff down and use a classic heel
construction with heel flap and gusset. The Ember stitch pattern is a simple skyp
stitch variant and easy to memorize. You can further choose betweeen a single–
and two-coloured variant for the heel flap. The two-coloured heel flap features
knit- and purl-below stitches, which makes stranded knitting unnecessary as
you work only with one colour at a time. The pattern is written for knitting with
five DPNs but can be easily adjusted for magic loop knitting or similiar MATERIALS
techniques. Just consider that you have to switch to two DPNs or need a second One colour: 100 g 4-ply sock yarn

HEEL FLAP
You will stop working in the round and knit the heel flap back and forth in rows
over needle 3 + 4 with 30 (33, 36) sts. To do so, turn work and start with
the wrong side facing.
GUSSET SETUP
Now you will start working in the round again. K over 16 (19, 20) heel sts, then
pick up 15 (16, 18) sts along the side of the heel flap. Work over instep sts
according to stitch pattern as already established. Pick up 15 (16, 18) sts
along the side of the heel flap again. K31 (35, 38) sts. Work over instep sts in
stitch pattern. K over 46 (51, 56) sole sts. This is the new beginning of the
round.

Repeat row 1 and 2 until there are 30 (33, 36) sole sts left (60 (66, 72) sts total).
FOOT
Continue instep in pattern as established and knit all sole sts until foot reaches 4 (4, 4.5) cm / 1.5 (1.5, 1.75)“
less than desired length (consider about 2 cm / 0.75“ less than the final total length for a better fit). End either after
round 2 or 4. If you want to work your toe in CC, cut MC and join CC before proceeding with the toe section.
TOE
Preparation rnd: knit over all sts
Repeat rnd 1 and 2 until you have 32 (38, 44) sts left in total.
Then only work rnd 1 until 16 (18, 20) total sts remain.
Finish your sock off by cutting the yarn, leaving a 25 cm / 10“ long tail. Close the toe by using kitchener stitch and
weave in all ends. Work the second sock in the same way. Wet block for best results, wear and enjoy!
