Welcome to the 4th/5th Grade Classroom!

Fourth and Fifth Graders are hard workers and loads of fun! They enjoy
Physical Education, Art and Recess. Each student has his favorite subject; it
might be any of the following!
Science Units include Minerals and Rocks, Matter, Energy and Heat, Sound
and Light Energy, Respiratory and Circulatory Systems, Weather and Biomes,
and Ecosystems.
Social Studies Units includes America’s First People through American
Exploration, Settlement, Colonies, Independence, Wars, and right through the
new millennium.
Bible Times Curriculum encourages us to memorize weekly bible verses while
studying bible stories and applying them to our own lives. Students are
encouraged to develop a daily bible reading habit, and learn to live from a
biblical lens.
Language Arts includes memorizing poetry, writing, and learning about
sentence structure with nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns.
Reading Units involve engaging literature where we learn about the author’s
craft like symbolism and allegory. We document how characters change and
how stories are structured. We read to understand ourselves better.
Math for Grade 4 and 5 includes a review of basic fact skills and problem
solving, and growing those skills to the next level in multiplication, division,
geometry, fractions, etc.
Spelling lists usually include 20-35 related words. While learning to spell,
students learn the meaning of their vocabulary words.

Meet the Teacher! Janet Anderson janet.anderson@valley-christian.org

This is my first year of teaching at Valley Christian School. I have 25 years of
teaching experience at the fourth-grade level. I live on a hobby farm with my
husband, Keith. We have three grown children who are mostly off on their
own. In my free time I enjoy reading, gardening, walking, kayaking and being
on or near a lake. I also enjoy baking, traveling and spending time with my
family and friends.
I have served in various ways in my church. A favorite Psalm is Psalm 121
which begins, ‘I lift my eyes up to the hills, from where does my help come? My
help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.’ Philippians 2: 3-11
is precious to me, and in Colossians 3: 12-17, verse 17 says, “And whatever
you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving
thanks to God the Father through him”.
