Globalization, a growing phenomenon that can be described as a “shift toward a more integrated and

interdependent world economy” (Hill 7), has been the subject of many books and discussions for the

past decade. Along with the development of microprocessors, the Internet is perhaps the most

significant technological innovation of our time, playing a substantial role in the growth of

globalization. The Internet facilitated the expansion of the movement toward a global village through

the creation of cheaper, faster and easier means of communication, the provision of a vast pool of

information, and the expansion of e-commerce. The Internet is the decisive technology of the

Information Age, and with the explosion of wireless communication in the early twenty-first

century, we can say that humankind is now almost entirely connected, albeit with great levels of

inequality in bandwidth, efficiency, and price. People, companies, and institutions feel the depth

of this technological change, but the speed and scope of the transformation has triggered all manner

of utopian and dystopian perceptions that, when examined closely through methodologically

rigorous empirical research, turn out not to be accurate. For instance, media often report that

intense use of the Internet increases the risk of isolation, alienation, and withdrawal from society,

but available evidence shows that the Internet neither isolates people nor reduces their sociability;

it actually increases sociability, civic engagement, and the intensity of family and friendship

relationships, in all cultures. Our current “network society” is a product of the digital revolution

and some major sociocultural changes. One of these is the rise of the “Me-centered society,”

marked by an increased focus on individual growth and a decline in community understood in

terms of space, work, family, and ascription in general. But individuation does not mean isolation,

or the end of community. Instead, social relationships are being reconstructed on the basis of

individual interests, values, and projects. Community is formed through individuals’ quests for

like-minded people in a process that combines online interaction with offline interaction,

cyberspace, and the local space.

The advancement of new technology has been taking place since the beginning of human history.

From the invention of items like the spear and knifes made out of rocks and sticks to aid in the

capturing and killing of animals for food, to items like the first printing press and the computer.

The advancement in technology has been exceptionally fast in the 20th and 21st century. With

electronic technology and machines being produced and improved all the time, it was very likely

that along with the positive aspects of these new advancements, people would also consider the

negative aspects and look to criticize new technology. Every day another company brings out
something more advanced in an attempt to win the consumer war against another company. This

consumerism is driving the rate of advancement faster and faster each year. The development of

the iPhone by Apple is an example of this. Apple brought out a phone that could literally do

everything and no other company in the mobile phone market could compare to it. Not only could

you make phone calls and text, but you could also watch videos, take pictures and videos, listen to

music, connect to the internet, you had app’s for almost anything. It’s the application market that

really blew the other mobile phone companies out of the market at the time. You could download

games, books, news, social networking sites in seconds. Of course, this was a positive as people

could use the phone to store data for work, education, entertainment. But the negative claims began

as well, too expensive, quick battery power loss and could a device like this stop face to face

communication all together to name just a few claims. Technology will always have negative

aspects because it depends on what the use of the technology is for and who is using it; Albert

Einstein once said ‘Technological progress is like an axe in the hands of a pathological criminal.”

Commonly known as WWW, the World Wide Web, as the name suggests, is a massive wireless

interlinked connection that is supported by a series of URL links, and which has made the world

to become a global village as the common adage goes. This is because it has come with such a

great and felt impact that has revolutionized communication, business, travel, networking, not

forgetting socializing. Introduction into the WWW technology began way back in centuries gone,

but the impacts, advantages and disadvantages that came with it are now greatly felt in this day

and age of the twenty first century. WWW is commonly referred to as online, wireless

communication, or as a majority of people would say- the internet. However, it is important to note

that there is a big difference between internet and WWW. While internet is a large system of

interconnected computer networks linked by the Protocol Suite and is what supports the use of

World Wide Web, the WWW is a dependent factor that relies on the availability of internet to

transmit information (James and Cailliau 2000 p. 27). Some of the impacts that World Wide Web

has had so far especially in communication include speeding up of instant messaging, facilitation

of internet forums, social networking online, blogging, online shopping and e-business has also

been boosted in terms of marketing and advertisements. Specifically, on the study of

communications, the World Wide Web has played a significant role in creating a channel in which

people can do online research, get reviews on what the technology users have to say about the

innovation and establish any existing loopholes in online communication and how they can be
bridged. The World Wide Web provides information that creators and innovators of

communication channels can make use of in the quest to provide cheap, effective, reliable and

state-of-the-art gadgets for communication purposes. One of the most world-wide felt impacts of

WWW on communication is rapid instant communication that affects almost every other aspect of

life be it social, economic, political or educational. Rapid instant communication implies that

communication is no longer one way. It is no longer necessary to wait for days on end for a reply

on some issue from a receiver of your message, but on the other hand, communication between

sender and receiver of the message has changed from being receiver oriented to both receiver and

sender oriented. How is this possible? This question shall form the basis of the study and feedback

projected in this paper (Wendy, 2010 p.46).

It is quite amazing how technology affects the lives of humans nowadays. In the world today

people cannot live without technologies like cellphones, televisions, radio, computers and many

more. These technologies have slowly taken an essential part in people’s day-to-day lives and

being without them would be unimaginable for some of us. To understand technology, one must

know what it provides in terms of advantages, but also disadvantages. First, the evolution of

technology is beneficial to humans for several reasons. At the medical level, technology can help

treat more sick people and consequently save many lives and combat very harmful viruses and

bacteria. The invention of the computer was a very important point. Communication is thus

enhanced, and companies can communicate more easily with foreign countries. Research is also

simplified. For companies, progress is saving in time and therefore in money. Exchanges are faster

especially with the internet. Sales and purchases are now facilitated and possible worldwide. This

allows businesses to buy raw materials with discounts or at reduced prices. Similarly, global

tourism has grown. When observed more closely, new things are discovered every day. Let’s take

for instance when radio waves were discovered, radio broadcasts followed suit almost

immediately. The same applies to the television and electricity. If no one had discovered that

electricity could be generated, then the entertainment industry wouldn’t be at its current stage of

development. in the modern industrial world, machines carry out most of the agricultural and

industrial work and as a result, workers produce much more goods than a century ago and work

less. They have more time to exercise and work in safer environments. The global impact of the

internet in the world is amazing because it makes our life more easier and it is now essential like

water. Just like me as a student we tend to search assignments and even projects via online with
the help of internet. It gives a lot of answers. We the students the future of our country we must

know some knowledge how to use internet in a proper way. This internet ‘www’ world wide web

connects everyone in this world. So, people can able to be in touch with their dear ones. It also

gives better communication for everyone in this world. If we think about us the students of our

country, internet is so much essential. Study is most essential part of a student’s life. So, internet

helps us to find out the solution of our problems. Math, science, history etc. we can able to read

and get materials also. There are so many sites which are providing free lectures also. I have my

Professor last semester who give us a quiz via online where we log in our email and passwords

and then we should take the quiz with a limited period of time for me its helpful because we can

take the quiz in our home or even in other places where theres a internet connection. So internet

gives a lot of benefits to the students. We can use it in our career growth and get knowledge.People

tend to gathered information through the use of internet for example if whats happening in the

world the current news and events in terms of political and social aspects. There’s a lot of issues

are resolved by the help of social media or internet. It gives awareness to the people and a lot of

missing ones are found because of internet. People nowadays are updated from time to time

because of internet. A lot of us are entertained and inspired because of internet. Now today’s the

trend of online shopping is growing up very fast. Users have now the facility of shop everything

what they want without going outside to stores and super markets. In the race of technology and

companies are giving best services to their users. And almost all the airlines are providing

advantages to their customer to buy the tickets online on internet. So, people are no need to go to

the agency or airline office. The Farmers nowadays are using technological advancement because

of the machines that will help them to harvest grains in an easier ways. The Government

Departments, Private Organization, Businesses, NGOs, School, Colleges and Universities etc. And

many other departments and peoples are using the e-mail services. And I’ll say that without e-mail

conversation half of word would be stop work. Because big projects, secret information and files

are shared through e-mails and this service is not possible without Internet Connection. Hundreds

of mobile applications, and thousands of websites in every country. In their national language

provide the services to the jobless peoples to find the jobs on Internet related to their experience

and criteria. Money in your bank account is now same like money in your pocket. Yes, you can

login to your account and make online transactions either bank is open or close. The impact of

internet to the society it will make everybody as one because of connection, even your in a other
places it is easy to talk to your loved ones because of internet. Look how big and great is the impact

of internet not just in ourself but also in political and social aspects.when there is positive impacts

there is also a negative impacts in all aspects. Not everyone is able to join the global community.

Countries in the developing world are not able to take advantage of the Internet in the same way

as developed nations can. Society suggests one reason for this is that Internet users are information

receivers rather than information creators. In some places, political control of the Internet means

the government censors the Internet and bans access to certain websites. In effect, there is no

universally equal access to the Internet, and this disadvantages people and businesses in

developing nations who are unable to take advantage of the Internet's global potential. One of the

negative effects of internet is the lack of face to face conversation because nowadays we tend to

chat or call via messenger. The problem is we don’t know if the person were talking with is sincere

about what his/her saying or not because we don’t feel his/her emotions and the face to face

conversation is gone. It also causes poor conflict resolution because it is not easy to solved conflict

via internet for me it will make the problem worst because you cannot explain your side and your

point. That’s why it is better if people should talk in person with a real face to face conversation.

A lot of us are getting addicted to the internet that will cause a barrier to communicate or to interact

to our friends or to our loved ones. For example, me as a human, then we play outdoors with my

playmates but now children are indoors and playing with their gadgets. There is no socialization

and interaction nowadays unlike before childhood days are so blissful and exciting. Next is

pornography that can get in the hands of young children too easily because of internet there are

some advertisement that popping and when you click it will lead you to a porn site that is not very

helpful to the children. Easy to waste a lot of time on the internet instead to do some household

choir or assignments we tend to consume our time by surfing in the internet without thinking that

are time are already wasted. Also, in workplace it will hamper productivity as well. With access

to billions of computers, it makes it easier for computer hackers and malicious users to hack

accounts and steal personal information that could be used for identity theft. The Internet also

connects all computers to each other, which makes it easier for hackers to scan millions of

computers and quickly identify what computers are vulnerable to attack. Hackers can also create

viruses that can get into our personal computer and ruin vulnerable data’s. The internet also makes

it easier for some of students to cheat on their studies. For example, when I was in high school one

of my classmate’s cheat by the use of his phone and the teacher found out that his searching in the
internet, the teacher captured his phone and proceed at the principal’s office. Next is potential

financial loss because of online selling we tend to order online less hassle and more convenient

but there are some people who pretend to be a seller but they are just a scammer, just like me three

years ago we met this girl in the Facebook named Aileen Navarro. She introduced herself as a

seller for a long time and she said that she have a lot of legit transactions, She even send a lot of

proofs that she is a legit seller So, Me and my mother are easy to believe because were not yet

aware to the word of “scammers” my mama ordered two pieces of a watch it is G shock and it

cause three thousand each so my mama send the money to the seller that cost six thousand. The

seller is very responsive by that time but when we already send the money. The seller told us that

she will send the package of our orders we will just need to wait. But three days had passed we

still don’t receive an any kind of package then the seller become unresponsive. My mother become

nervous because it is a big amount, then days had passed we realized that we’ve been scam by a

scammer. People nowadays are disgusting because of internet just like here in our province its

election campaign some of the persons that running for position are destroying reputation via social

media. They tend to share some fake news about the person and they post it through social media.

It is good that internet tend to update us but not all news that coming from internet are legit there

are some news that are fake or not realistic. As with watching tv, spending too much time on

computer and cellphone it will lead to unhealthy lifestyle based on my experience when I was in

Grade 11 I have a vision of 20/20 which is normal but when I was in grade 12 my vision become

blurry and it is because of too much exposure on cellphones the radiation destroy my vision.

Enemy countries hire special hackers to steal the secrets file of government. These files may be

the atomic codes, arms modules, drone designs and many other files like that are not secure in the

presence of Internet.

There are so many things in the world and internet is like a Xinyang process that have some

advantages or benefits and some are disadvantages. It is depending on us on how we use these

things. We are in the 21st century where everything is so easy internet allows us to communicate

with other people, choose our friends, gives us information, widen our literacy, easy banking, easy

shopping, booking online and many more. With this connection gives us a responsibility that we

should use it in a proper way that will benefits our self and also the people around us take note that

too much of everything is bad. The government has given us a chance to use internet so we have

the privileged to have this wonderful technology. We have to be responsible in every act we made,
think a lot of times before we commit it. Always consider the feelings of other. Information

technology has been one of the leading drivers of globalization, and it may also become one of its

major victims. We should do the right thing and never mistreat it. Think about or behavior and

treat everyone appropriately. Be educated, respect others reputation and protect yourself and your

privacy. Technology is a good servant but a bad master. The Internet is becoming the town square

for the global village of tomorrow.
