The CLSU Maestro-Singers of the Central Luzon State University was organized in 1998
by a Classic Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Florante P. Ibarra. Serving as CLSU’s cultural ambassadors,
the group had won numerous awards in local, regional, national, and international levels. After
merely four years of existence, the Singers have gained a lot in terms of competition awards
enough to say that they are successful in earning fame in choral singing.
Recently, the group won two Gold Awards both Sacred and Open Mixed Categories at

the 11 Orientale Concentus International Choral Festival held on July 1-4, 2018 at School of the
Arts, Singapore; the group was likewise awarded 1st runner up in the 2017 National PASUC
Culture and Arts Festival held at Siliman University, Dumaguete City; awarded a Gold Diploma
in the Mixed Category in 2014 Busan Choral Festival and Competition, Busan, South Korea
(October, 2014); likewise, they garnered two gold medals in the Folkloric Category and two
silver medals in the Mixed Category during the 4th Winter Choral Competition held at Tsuen
Wan, Hong Kong (December, 2013) and 1st Sing n’ Joy Manila International Choral Festival
(December, 2013) respectively.
For more than a decade, the group consistently maintained their position as top
performing group in choral competition in Region III which paved their way to a cultural
exchange program in Thailand (2007). Both in 2007 and 2009, the group won two First Place
Republic of the Philippines
awards in the Regional Literary-Musical Competitions. They were also featured in different
cultural events held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Folk Arts Theatre, Senate of the
Philippines, and Paco Park Presents.With their equipped talents, the group produced three
National Awardees in Vocal Solo (First Place in 2004 and 2007) sponsored by the National
Music Competition for Young Artists (NAMCYA). They have placed the Central Luzon State
University on top position by winning the top prize in the 2002 Literary Musical First National
Finals and in the Regional Choral Competition after having declared CHAMPION for four
consecutive years in the Development Council for State Universities and Colleges (DCSUC)
Literary Musical Festival from 1999-2003 (Regional Level).
A multi-awarded choral conductor, he trained several winners in the National Music Competition
for Young Artists (NAMCYA) and the Literary-Musical Competitions of the Development Council of
State and Universities in the Philippines (DCSUC). He attended various international choral workshops
the United States, Israel, Singapore, Thailand, and Indonesia. At present, Dr. Ibarra is proudly affiliated
with the Central Luzon State University College of Education teaching core courses in music and arts,
and continues to perform here and abroad. As music researcher, he has published research articles on
teaching and learning indigenous musical traditions in referred international journals such as International
Journal of Community Music and The Qualitative Report both indexed in Scopus.
