ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to know the impact of Classical Music on the Academic

Performance of the Senior High School students in USI. Specifically, it sought to answer the

following: (1) What is the respondents’ academic performance with and without background

music; (2) what are the musical factors affecting the performance; (3) what are the advantages

and (4) disadvantages of listening to classical music on academic performance? The respondents

were twenty-four (24) Grade 12 students of Universidad de Santa Isabel within the 17-19 age

brackets. The researchers used a survey questionnaire to collect data for the answers and

discovered the following; that most people always listen to music while at work, usually at a

moderate or midrange volume, and that most people were able to work fine with background

music while some are able to focus very well. However, people were skeptical of whether or not

music could actually help students perform well when playing classical music in the background

while conducting a quiz. Overall, the results were ambiguous and the researchers wish to

encourage readers to conduct their own research on the topic.
