Utilizing the code.org we worked on coding. This demonstrates an understanding of fundamental

programming concepts using block programming. This was a challenging assignment as I began

with no knowledge of programming. This helped me have a deeper understanding of the process

that provides the interface of so many mobile applications and computer applications that we use

in our day to day life. I started with going to the website and watching the videos provided.

However, this was not enough for me. I ended up looking more into how to complete basic entry

coding and how it is written. After watching more videos and watching the provided videos a

second time I was able to begin working on the tasks. While I don’t believe that I will be using

this in the future for personal or professional purposes I do have a greater appreciation for the

complexities of mobile applications like Facebook, Instagram, and snapchat. As well, for another

class we had to seek virtual mathematical manipulatives, and this provided me with a deeper

respect for computer programmers that complete these.

In respect to the modules using Microsoft Word and Excel I believe it aided in completing the

objective of approaching new computer-based tasks more easily and with greater confidence.

Prior to starting the class, I believed I had a good understanding of Microsoft Word. However,

until this class I didn’t know many of the tasks that were asked to be completed. To complete the

assignment, I needed to use the information provided as well as google on how to complete the

different tasks. These basic computer assignments have helped me feel more familiar and

comfortable with using the software. I believe this will be a great skill for me personally and

professionally. It will help and has helped me with completing assignments in my current

coursework and believe it will in my future coursework as well. Additionally, for my profession

in education it will be beneficial for me to be able to help students as well as complete reports,

grading, and preparing presentations. To complete this objective, I also believe that the

PowerPoint software has helped substantially.

During the whole course, but specifically the one regarding legal issues I believe we met the

goal/objective of Navigating and researching the World Wide Web for information, assess and

document the validity and reliability of the information gathered. During this section we learned

about copyright issues which were reinforced in further assignments when utilizing public

images for other projects like the PowerPoint assignment, photo editing, and screencasting. The

information provided during the Creative Commons module was very useful and will come in

handy when completing coursework for other classes as well as for my future career in

education. It is my hope that I will be able to make a lot of my educational materials for my

classes and I would like to include images to keep the students entertained. This will be very

helpful for me and benefit my students during my years as a teacher.
