Ayah, the Responsible Leader

Taking responsibility for safety: T Naema was preparing the baking soda and vinegar for the
sandpit eruption. You made sure your friend was safe by preventing him from straying into the
danger zone. You simply held out your arm and ordered him: Bukhari! Stay back. You also
responsibly and carefully added the vinegar to the baking soda to bring about the eruption. 2

A leader in Islamic knowledge: Ayah you are a confident learner. You memorised surah Al
Qadr and surah Quraish. You recited them to the class on many occasions. You also led the
tamariki and your kaiako in recitation. You sat in front of us and read in a clear, audible voice
with a big smile on your face. Sometimes you even approach your teachers in the playground
and recite for us. We always congratulate you on your effort and achievement. It is a great thing
to carry the words of Allah in your heart. You were awarded first prize in our Quran competition.
This month you led the class in recounting a new Islamic story. 15 Sep 19
 Ayah leads by example: The teachers and tamariki enjoyed
a picnic lunch in the outside play area on a beautiful spring
day. Look how you are sitting nicely, in your own space, on
the blanket. You are eating your healthy food and what great
Islamic manners; you are eating with your right hand. Ma
shallah, Ayah. Ka Pai. We noticed that you are setting a great
example for the younger tamariki.

The Fair Leader: You were very excited to find the ladybug. You are holding it very carefully to
keep it safe. You are also sitting with your hands outstretched so your friends can also share in
the joy of your discovery. They are asking for a turn holding it, but as leader, you have decided
that you are the one to have that privilege and responsibility. 15 Sep 19

What learning has occurred?

You show initiative and are learning responsible behaviour. In your role of leader you know how
to make fair and safe decisions. You know how to be an effective leader in your speech and
actions and manners. You are learning how powerful it is to lead by example. Your confidence
and curiousity are big assets in leadership roles.

Next Steps…
Ayah, you know what it means to be a responsible leader. I noticed you taking care of the
ladybug, the worms. You also care about eating your healthy food. That means your new focus
is wellbeing. We will look at ways you can keep yourself healthy and take care of yourself. You
enjoy Quran. The words of Allah touch our heart. We will look at nurturing your emotional well
being. We will support you to express, articulate and resolve a range of emotions.
