Happy and healthy in body and mind

Child/ Hine: Ayah. Teacher/ Kaiako: Jane. Date: 31 October/ Whiringa-ā-nuku 2019

You told me I eat healthy food, teacher. So my body will be strong. May Allah bless you with
good health, Ayah! We talk a lot about healthy kai (food) and you know we remove sugary and
unhealthy food from your lunchbox. You told me that too much sugar is bad for our teeth and
our bodies. I suggested that sometimes too much sugar and unhealthy food makes us feel not
good. You said Then we be sick. In the photo you are sharing in eating vegetables, including
celery that you picked from our centre vegetable garden. The next day I asked if you would
like to help watering the celery. When T. Naema asked why we need to water the plants you
said So they can live. Keep learning, Ayah. Kei te mohio koe. 1 Oct 19
You are very active and
every day you participate
in lots of energetic running,
climbing and biking. One
day, during your active
play, I asked you how you
feel. You replied I feel
happy, teacher. Exercising
is good for our minds as
well as our bodies! 2 Oct

All your kaiako have noticed how much you like to join in activities as an active participant.
You always contribute to group play. We can see from your beautiful smiles how happy this
makes you. But in case there was any doubt, you also tell us how happy you are: I very happy
today, teacher.

What learning has occurred?

Ayah, your learning pathway for term 4 is about wellbeing. You are making connections
between actions and emotional states.
You are increasing your knowledge of your body and how to keep it healthy. You know the
importance of eating healthy food and I really like the way you really do eat fruit and vegetables
every day. You know what foods are healthy and what foods are unhealthy.
You know that exercise is important for a healthy body.
You are making connections between certain practices/ activities and your mental and
emotional wellbeing. You can identify the feeling of happiness in yourself and ma shallah that
is your most common state. You are a happy girl. Kei te koa koe.

Next Steps…
We will continue to look at ways to be healthy in body and mind. We will give you opportunities
to prepare your own healthy food.
We will encourage you to express your feelings and needs.
We will give you more opportunities to participate in activities that make you feel good like
group play and taking care of the centre.
